One can only hope that the qualityof the show is as good inside as it is outside.

There's a credit card swipe. For $10, you can get your name in lights for 5 seconds (it blocks profanity, and known rude abbreviations)
(MGM can contact me for my cut if they use that idea)
: )

Does MGM own the sphere? I didn't think so.
Quote: DRichDoes MGM own the sphere?
No.
Per wiki:
"The project was initially a partnership between the Madison Square Garden Company (MSG) and Las Vegas Sands Corporation.[8] The Sphere is just off the Las Vegas Strip and east of the Venetian resort, which was opened by Las Vegas Sands in 1999.[7] Las Vegas Sands contributed the 18-acre (7.3 ha) site for the project.[9] Apollo Global Management purchased the Venetian in 2022 and became MSG's new partner on the Sphere project, replacing Las Vegas Sands.[10] As part of the sale, the land beneath the Venetian and the Sphere was purchased by Vici Properties.[11]"

Thats either an observatory or Luke Skywalker needs to fly down a narrow passage to destroy it.
How long until it is just wallpapered with advertisements?
Quote: DRichI have not seen it in person yet, but I think that is the coolest thing ever done in Vegas. People use to be excited by a volcano, pirate ship fight, and a dancing waters fountain. The fact that this can change minute by minute makes it a perfect attraction.

30 second commercials maybe. Do they run ads on the downtown overhead visual canopy?
Quote: rxwineHow long ago did they start construction on that?

I would guess about two and a half years ago. They had started construction while I was still living in Las Vegas.

The Sphere is set to open on September 29, 2023, with U2 kicking off their U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency.[4][5]
Can you believe it? The Sphere cost more to build than Allegiant Stadium! But while the outside is getting rave reviews, I hear the inside is having issues both with U2 seating and the booking of future acts.
U2 is said to be getting ten million dollars upfront, plus 90% of ticket sales and merchandise for a dozen shows over the next few months. With 17,000 seats, it's a horrible deal for MSG and if other artists insist on similar terms, the Sphere will fail. Deals like this work in stadiums when 10% of 60,000 tickets provides much more cash flow.
Wonder what the power bill is.

can those external monitor screens also be solar panels?
double duty?
I would like to see Nintendo advertise on the Sphere during the F1 race with something like Mario Kart for the whole 2 hrsQuote: GialmereOkay. Death Star has now replaced blinking eyeball as my favorite MSG Sphere visual. I can see why F1 decided to loop their track around it.

Bee hive, with bees flying out. Does it play music when near it? Flight of the Bumble Bee.
That's all I can think of for proposals.
Lots of Vegas signs use this high flash mode to attract attention. Have they made it flash like a white strobe light yet? I imagine that might cause complaints or even accidents. And seizures?, therefore lawsuits.
Spectacular stuff, visually.

Quote: The StreetIn a broad sense, even when it's not hosting U2 or another major headline act, the Sphere will be a tourist draw. Those tourists, however, may not be coming to gamble or spend money as both The Venetian and Palazzo are high-end properties that may not appeal to the crowd coming to just watch a free exterior laser/projection show at Sphere.

Quote: GialmereAn article at 'The Street' is pointing out that both The Venetian and Palazzo will start charging for parking later this summer. The speculation is the move is timed to the Sphere's first concert in September. Beyond that...

I wonder if it would be better if they tried a carrot and not the stick. They should advertise something in the parking area, that makes people want to go into their casino before or after concerts. Or maybe some other option.
Yeah, it looks cool, but only from a distance.
Up close, like ~30 feet away on the monorail, you can see the individual pixels and it ruins the effect.

I assume they could project it to look like a typical building from a distance with windows and darkened edges to give it a more typical squarish building look. Then do cool things like have King Kong climb on it.

How can you spend $2B on outdoor electronics and not make it rainproof???
For some reason I'm reminded of the euthanasia scene in Soylent Green.

That's an old video. It isn't rain damage; it's from before the Sphere was finished and they were still fiddling with the electronics.

Quote:Some U2 fans have reported issues with an overhang that is reputedly restricting the view of the mega-screen at the Las Vegas Sphere. The band is currently in the midst of a record-breaking residency at the new venue, which boasts a wrap-around screen that displays an array of breathtaking graphics during the performances.
However, some concertgoers haven't been able to enjoy the screen in-full, as an overhang in the building is reportedly blocking the views from certain seats. In a call out, multiple Reddit users told IrishStar.com that they weren't aware of the issue when they purchased their tickets, which are selling for upwards of $200.
At the same time, the more expensive tickets seem to barely be selling at all. It will be very interesting how the longevity of this works out. It seems pretty obvious people are not willing to pay the high price for these tickets as it is.
Wiz: this one has tickets available at $49+fees. If you look even further out you can find more tickets and literally be sitting across the aisle from people paying $169.

For Twitchcon, a convention for streamers and their followers on the streaming site Twitch, Sony and Microsoft had back to back days of nothing but ads on it.
While I had hopes of getting some sort of discount ticket, I also wanted to pay cash. I failed at both goals and ended up not seeing it at all.
Back in September, I could have gotten seats online at $49 plus fees. Once I was in town, those seats were no longer available. The cheapest online was $89 plus fees. That seems to be a pattern. The further out you look, the more likely cheaper sections will be available. I find it hard to believe that they are selling out entire sections while other sections remained almost empty. Then again, maybe most people do purchase the cheapest seats available.
When in town, I went to the Tix4Tonight booth at Casino Royale. Not only did they not have discount tickets, they didn't have them at all.
I then tried a couple casino box offices and concierges. Nope.
I even went to the Venetian box office. I figured since it was for a while called "The Sphere at Venetian" they have tickets. Or at least some info. Not only were they unable to sell tickets, they couldn't even tell me if the sphere had its own box office where I could get them.
Sure, I could have made the walk over there to inquire, but I do enough walking in Vegas. I wasn't gonna make that trek on a chance. Particularly since I both doubted they'd have a box office, and was sure that if I COULD get them, there'd be no discount. And again, probably not for cash.
Good tickets are going fast I was looking two weeks ago and there were plenty of tickets. Now, just the 9:30 shows have aisle seats next to the more expensive center seating.
She's back!Quote: beachbumbabsNobody has mentioned this, but I'm pretty sure Vici, the people who bought the sphere from Sands, is a holding company for Caesar properties. Has anyone tried to check if their hosts have discounted or free tickets to events there? I would think they would be a better resource than Venetian, since Sands is no longer the owner, but idk.
