Quote: NokTangHere in Asia it's so common, one has to wonder why it has no appeal in the USA.
Cell companies pay big money to the govt to own the cellular spectrum, and in turn lobby big money to keep themselves as the only wireless data providers.
Anytime something in the US doesn't make sense, the answer is usually party-line politics or legalized corruption AKA lobbying.
Because screw it, not even worth the waste of electrons. Wherever you go, there you are; which is sometimes unfortunate.
Quote: TigerWuDrinking would be hard... even if you stuck with the penny slots to get free drinks you'd still have to tip the cocktail waitresses. You might be better off just hitting a liquor store and grabbing a pint of cheap whiskey to slug off of throughout the day.
Sorry for the late response, but I think it's totally feasible. When i say legal means, it doesn't have to follow the social norm (tipping, asking somebody to buy you a slice of pizza, etc.). When we were young, we had dare challenges while hanging around the strip. We had one of our friends go up to table game players and politely ask that it was a dare and that he had to get somebody to order him a drink. We were surprised how many table game players (esp craps when they were on a hot streak) would order a shot for themselves as well and drink with my friend (while even paying his tip).
Quote: JohnnyQI could do it, but not if Mrs Q was along. I would be having a light dinner at the Diamond Lounge every night. The $ 10 is just for eating and drinking, right ?
Sorry for the late response as well, but if one were to do it, they should do it without any nice diamond perks to keep it REAL. It would be a fun/funny week long trip report to read what he/she did to survive on a $10 food/beverage budget. GWAE, when in August are you doing it? I'd like to donate a massive TWO WHOLE DAYS worth of your food and beverages ($20) if you're really doing it.

So I am not sure if I qualify or not. When we are there in aug my food will be completely free except for tips. I am not sure I could get away with under 10 in tips unless I stiff everyone on tips, which maybe I will do. Our stay comes with free buffets, I have 2 days worth of buffets from myvegas. We are only there 4 days so we have to figure out the other meals but I have comp points ththat I can use as well to eat so for us eating free and cheap will be easy.
Breakfast- 2 $1 Sausage Burritos and a coffee $3
Lunch-2 Hot and Spicy Chickens and a drink $3
Dinner atTaco Bell or Del Taco
Any two items from their dollar menu and a small drink $3
tax on $9 is about 75 cents.
Signed up for a players card to try the new player "scratch card" promotion where you can win a variety of prizes. Me and my GF both ended up with 1000 slot Club points which wasn't enough to redeem anything. We just left without playing.
After that I went to the pinball hall of fame. You guys have something great here. Pinball and old arcade games are a hobby of mine (own several machines) and I got to play some stuff here that I never thought I'd get my hands on. They have pinball circus, only 2 where ever made and the other is in a private collection. They also have Cactus Canyon, which is another extreamly rare game made by Bally/Williams before they got out of the pinball business and went the way of Slot Machines. There's a few hundred of these out there, but they don't come up often and sell for $15-$20k. They also have all the new Stern/Jersey Jack games, as well several very old EM machines. On the arcade side, they have Star Trek Strategic Operations simulator, which is a cockpit style arcade game from the 80's that has also become very rare. People just threw these things away when the 80's arcade bubble burst and gaming went the way of consoles.
After the pinball stop, since I recently became aware that Marijuana is legal in Nevada starting TODAY, I went to a dispensery a short way off the strip. There was a huge line, but they had tents set up and plenty of free cold water bottles, and a DJ for entertainment. He played a lot of Bob Marley and Sublime for some reason.
After waiting about an hour, I was led into a doctor's office style waiting room, where I gave my driver's license to the receptionist to be verified. After about 15 mins my name was called, and I was led around a very nice show room where I was guided through all the menu options and methods of THC consumption.
There was 1 guy outside protesting the whole thing, but he also had signs that were presumably for gay bars so I think he was just making his rounds. You guys are lucky to have a very progressive state. I hope recreational comes to PA soon.

Could hardly believe my eyes when I read the ultra, ULTRA conservative Koch brothers announced support for drug legalization:
Quote:Koch network leaders criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ drug policies at the organization’s ongoing Colorado conference, calling on him to not revive the war on drugs because “drugs won,” media outlets reported Sunday.
In 1972 Consumers Union published, Licit & Illicit Drugs, a comparative study of the (good and bad) effects of each and every drug. It also noted America was at a crossroads as it tried to decide whether to criminalize or legalize drugs. The report recommended America not attempt to stamp out illegal drug use for two primary reasons: (1) All past efforts since the Harrison Narcotic Act of 1914 had failed. And, (2) Health effects -- as occurred with some (legal and Illegal) drugs -- could only be addressed by the medical community if drugs where legal.
In 1973, with the establishment of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), America made its choice to address drug use as a criminal problem rather than a health issue. But, as noted in this Rolling Stone article, Nixon created the DEA to get back at his two biggest enemies, Blacks and kids protesting the Vietnam War:
Quote: Ehrlichman interviewNixon's domestic-policy adviser, John Ehrlichman, in an interview published posthumously in Harper's this year [2016], revealed the true aim of the Drug War was to criminalize the administration's "two enemies: the anti-war left and black people." As Ehrlichman explained, "We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings and vilify them night after night on the evening news."
So, enjoy your newly legal Nevada pot, and good luck with legalization in PA. A recent voter-approved constitutional amendment made medical marijuana legal in Florida, but Florida government is stonewalling anything close to reasonable access. Florida politicians are so clueless they think there are two 'M's in dumb.
Not only will the city lose a revenue stream, but I'm sure some of the medical dispensaries will end up suing so there is that cost as well.
I don't know much about pot, I smoked it once (alot at once) when I was 18 and didn't like it at all. It tripped me out and freaked me out.
I may have taken a puff or 2 since but not enough to feel anything.
Quote: AxelWolfWith all this talk about pot, It must have been on the news all night. I had a dream last night I bought $50k worth(that was enough to create a shortage) and market it up 100% and sold it in small amounts to all the people in the casinos, especially the people clubbing.

Next you will be APing water. Maybe you can fill up used bottles for the guys on the streets. Too bad you don't get a lot of rain or you could collect rain water for them.
There are no workplace protections. You can still get fired for having pot in your system.
Did I mention this was a dream?Quote: boymimboOf course Axel you would be charged with trafficking for doing that. You can buy in dispensaries. You can consume only on your property (home, porch, backyard). You can only buy 2.5 ounces ever 14 days. It is illegal in bars, restaurants, casinos, on the street, and on federal property. You can only carry one ounce. $600 fine after that and of course felonies for selling.

If anyone has any experience with this, can ya let me know if it's good? I'm thinking it is. It was good in my dream, at least.
Great book if you haven't read it.
Quote: billryanGlenn Wiggy wrote the book on blackjack Pros APing water. "1536 Free Waters and other Blackjack endeavors".
Great book if you haven't read it.
Yes, very good book. I thought it was great and had me laughing all throughout. Plenty of stuff that's relatable....unfortunately, I've forgotten most of it. Might have to give it another readin'.
Note: It's just a book on experiences and mostly a comedy book. Doesn't tell you how to play, strategies, math, etc. IIRC, if you send him an email, he'll send you the book for free, or something like that.
Glenn,( or Col. Wiggy,to be formal) seems like a real nice guy. He was a regular on Ken Smiths forum for awhile.
He has some youtube videos, but I've never seen any.

If I can only carry 1oz how can I buy 2.5 and carry it home without committing a crime?
Quote: gamerfreakSaw the Neon Boneyard today, very cool. Although some guy spitting on my windshield while I was driving downtown wasn't so great....
Were you using the bus lane to turn?
Quote: billryanNice meeting you. Please let us know how the Grand Canyon West turns out.
We went today and it was great. The roads are 100% paved and it's only about a 2hr drive, very easy to get there from Vegas. I got better cell service out than I have in Vegas on Verizon, although my girlfriend who is on Sprint had 0 service. There's about a 40 mile stretch where there's no stops. If you have a full tank of gas and some water it's no big deal.
The views were great, I've never been to the other rims of the canyon so I can't compare, but I think it was totally worth the trip. All of the tribal staff were extremely nice as well. Parking was free, the only downside is the $50 entrance fee.
Quote: billryanIs that $50 plus the $82 Skywalk fee?
Didn't do the skywalk, looked pretty lame. The skywalk package is $82 and includes the admission and food.
I took something from Vegas back from me.....in the form of food poisoning or some type of stomach bug. As soon as I got to my terminal in the Vegas airport I started yacking every 30 mins, including all through the 6 hour flight and during the car ride home.
So I'm here on my death bed trying to keep some fluids down and to stay hydrated. Thanks Vegas.
Quote: gamerfreakMade it back in one piece (knew kinda).

Probably the maid made intimate use of your toothbrush...sorry, still grossed out (other thread).
Stomach bug no fun. Glad you had an otherwise good trip, and thanks for the update on the GC trip.
I can't remember the last time I was this sick. I don't know if it's food poisoning or stomach flu, but I'm blaming either the Flamingo Pool, shrimp from the Grand Canyon reservation, or Chipotle from the Venetian. Oddly enough my girlfriend ate pretty much all the same stuff and is fine.
You must have got the special slice of pizza meant for Romes.Quote: gamerfreakMade it back in one piece (knew kinda).

If I get to the Indian Reservation by Grand Canyon West, pay the extra money.

Merely thinking such a thing is heresy!!

Tacos El Gordo was great
We don't have any good Mexican food on the east, and my GF is obsessed with chipotle.
My burrito ended up on the side of the road the next morning if it makes you feel any better.

I haven't been to AC in years, but there used to be a hole in the wall Oaxacan restaurant right across the street from the casino entrance to Trump Plaza. Not the hotel entrance, but the doors that took you right out onto the main street. There was a nude bar a couple stores down. Best Mexican food I ever had, although I must say I'm not a huge fan of most Mexican dish's.
I still say Del Taco is better than TEG.
God damn it Vegas.
Edit: unless she went to Chipotle near where you live. Then it's likely.
Quote: boymimboWell then at least it wasn't food poisoning.

Nope no chipotle here.
Since she did the smart thing and seeked out medical treatment, they said it was viral so it's probably just s stomach bug. I think food poisoning is usually bacterial.
I need someone to blame so I'm going to blame the resort pool.
