Quote: djatcI always ask for a "no ice" drink everywhere I go. It's gonna be cold going down, I don't need ice getting in the way of the drink.
but then again I don't drink alcohol so I guess it doesn't really matter.
I like A&W root beer for that reason. They never put ice in their drinks because they don't want the root beer taste to be watered down.
Quote: EvenBobWhich cost them about a quarter. All their profit
comes from the concession stand. They buy the
corn in 100lb bags and the yellow goo they put on it
by the 5gal pail.
They pop it fresh at half the cinemas here in town. I never get the butter-style topping. Makes me heave thinking about it.
I am not sure the iMax only makes a profit at the concession stand, as its part of the musuem here and doesnt show feature films most of the time. But whose to know unless I find the operating accounts for the place :)

Even if 100 bums came into each casino to grab 5 drinks a day, you're looking at a cost of about $85/day or $30,000/year in free giveaways, small change to a strip casino, and I would assume security would figure out who these people were pretty quickly and stop them at the door.
But as big of a problem is good people do not want to come to a casino with bums straggling all over the place. Don't get me wrong, I like the stations. But I can see why the strip properties do not put them in.
They're usually MIA.
One would think access to water in the desert would be akin to "a god-given right."
Oh well, the casino-lords giveth, and the lords taketh away.
Bah.
Quote: beachbumbabsFWIW, I used to date a guy who managed a cinema, and according to him, the ticket prices go completely or even at a slight loss to the distributor for the movie rental and the lobby cards etc. Their entire operation is paid for by the concession stand.
I said this exact thing weeks ago. The guy in Santa Barbara
who ran all the theatres in town said their entire profit was
from concession, the tickets paid the movie rental and employee's.
Quote: mickeycrimmThe only casino in Las Vegas I ever seen a water fountain in was Binion's Horseshoe.
Off the top of my head, I know that Bally's has a drinking fountain.
Boulder station -- in some of the restrooms entrance. (like by the theaters for instance)
Sam's Town - next to check in by the park. Also by the theaters.

Over the years, I've heard more than a couple versions of these conversations:
Security guard "OUT"
Scruffy person "I was playing this machine!"
Security guard 'You were sleeping."
Scruffy person. "No sir, I was playing" (maybe pushes one penny button on a $1.35 total in machine)
Security guard. "I've been watching you for the last half hour"
etc.,
Quote: WizardOur own teliot has a good article about the casino scene in Macau, titled Bottled water and no smoking ....
I too have noticed there is hardly any drinking of alcohol in Macau. Smoking seems more welcome in the old Stanley Ho casinos.
Even better than bottled water, I would give out sturdy water bottles to players and make available convenient refilling stations.
Went to 7liuck Millennium Casino in Seoul last night, and to my surprise the dealers do not take any drink orders anymore, only bottled water is available. But they do have a cart that comes around once an hour that has coffee, soda, juice and beer available and the self service area is still there (no alcohol drinks though).
A friend who does bare minimum wagers at even money bets on roulette (about 4 spins an hour to take advantage of free whiskey and coke drinks, etc, lol) is not happy at all! lol. He even tried to get one "to go" at the dining area, and they said he must be seated and eating there to get one.
First, the smokers complained when they stopped smoking on the main floor, and now the (alcohol) drinkers are complaining. One guy said that he thought the casinos would want customers to drink alcohol so they would have more of a tendency to gamble more.
