Tried some "artisan" jerky from Eddie World in Yermo, California. It was excellent, but when you work out the price for a pound, it was $72. I can understand paying a premium if you are eating some rare beast, but even then, there's got to be a limit to what people are willing to pay.

The question for the poll is, What's the most you would pay for jerky?

I recently paid $3.75 an ounce to try some jerky. I thought it was ridiculous but I paid it anyway.

Can’t say i’ve tasted any jerky I would even consider paying in the double digits for.

Don't forget that jerky loses about 50%-60% of its weight in the drying process. So that $10/lb ribeye that you get from the butcher would be $20-$24/lb when 'jerkified.'

I think $30/lb would be about my ceiling, but I rarely buy/eat jerky.

It is a trendy item, so i'd avoid it until the trend subsides. Then I would probably not buy it at all.

I might pay a premium for something rare... Gray Whale, White Rhino, T-Rex... but it's hard to justify the cost. On the other hand, the serving portion is small enough to make the cost palatable. I suppose lots of things in this world would be outrageous if we only saw prices "per pound" (Tylenol, Tic Tacs, staples...)

I’m not really a fan. It’s okay enough, if someone offers me a piece I’ll take it to be polite. But I don’t ever buy it. I voted 1-9.99 because then I can resell it for $72.

3.75/oz. is $60/lb. So maybe a $12 per pound, or 20% premium for "artisan" anything in Yermo isn't that looney.

The jerky I buy regularly is $1 an ounce and can be bought at Amazon. It isn't great, but I am not a fan of most prepackaged jerky.

You big high rollers are on your way to do some serious gambling in Vegas, you stop in Yermo to buy some jerky, and you're even thinking about the price of jerky. Who gives a fk. In three more hours you're going to be betting black chips, playing $5 Double Double Bonus, and buying $100 hookers. Just pay the guy for the most expensive jerky he has, and get going, before you get caught in traffic. Life is short.

I think about this all the time—agonizing about whether to pay $5 for a bottled drink or $25 for a shirt when I'll probably be dropping $100 when I gamble later. But then, that's what the local casino economy wants you to think: throw your money away here, instead of throwing it away at the casino.

But regarding jerky, for me, it's more about whether I can get what "feels" like a good amount for less than $8. So 4 ounces, maybe? That works out to $32/pound.

I was just kidding. Well, kinda kidding.
