Understood. But that actually highlights a different problem.Quote: onenickelmiracleBBB said when threads are flagged taken down, she can't know who they are.
Administrators have been asking for years that flagged / deleted posts actually be moved to a hidden, administrator only area. That would fix this.
Thinking more like Japanese twins....
Or Swedes, Swedes might work....
You're right. That would be the ideal fix.Quote: DJTeddyBearAdministrators have been asking for years that flagged / deleted posts actually be moved to a hidden, administrator only area. That would fix this.
But for right now, it seems (based on Babs' posts in the Misc thread) that this is the best option. If this is not the best option, the Greenies can always close or delete this thread.

Saw it coming. Laughed anyway.
Quote: JoemanThis thread contains a list of member names who have posted spam
I assumed the mods and admins would ban the member name when they remove the spam post.
I didn't know it was still possible to flag posts. I guess my ability to flag posts has been taken away, because I no longer see the option on any posts.

We do.
However, if some number of members flag a post, the post goes away, but the member is not banned. They just drop into the visited the site list at the bottom. And there's no indication to the admins that a spammer was flagged, at least not at my access level.
I think they modified the member flag option for posts from members with less than a small amount of posts. You should see it on new members.
Quote: JoemanThis thread contains a list of member names who have posted spam (UK Kitchens, etc). Please add to the list whenever you flag one of their posts.
May I ask why? We admins have to ban the member and flag the thread. I hate to add a third step without reason.
For what it's worth I've busted about 50 UK kitchen threads and spammers with comment.

Babs' post in the Miscellaneous Discussion Thread made it sound like having this list would make it easier to nuke the spammers. If having this thread actually causes you more work, then by all means, please lock/delete it.Quote: WizardMay I ask why? We admins have to ban the member and flag the thread. ETA: I'd like to send a general "Thank You" out to all the Admins, not just for nuking spammers, but for all they do to keep this a civil, informative, and fun forum!

You're welcome!
Quote: JoemanOK, I just re-read my post, and caught the ambiguity. I was not making a request of the Admins to add to the list. This was a request directed to us regular members who get up early and flag the spammers into oblivion, so that the Admins would have a record of their account names even if their threads are gone. Sorry for the confusion.
Thank you for the clarification. I appreciate the thought but I wouldn't bother. These people can just make new accounts like hotcakes. We'll nuke them as we come across them.
Still Welsh dresser, now in 'cream'.
Still holding out for Swedish or Japanese, and twins.
Incidentally, this one and all the kitchen ones share a UK postal address. You could send them an official looking snailmail telling them to pack it up.

Good detective work.. I've taken a photo of your post!
Quote: rsactuaryI've taken a photo of your post!
Why? Are you going to blackmail me :o)
Just out of curiosity I took a look at that address on Google Street View. An old brick multi-story building which is unremarkable as far as I can tell. Other than the extraordinary volume of random worthless promotional newsletters and cheesey advertising crap one hopes is about to start arriving. And being within yards of an enterprise called "Dream Girls Lingerie" so obviously in a charming neighborhood. I imagine there's probably just a little rented broom closet sized "office" upstairs for the gangsta countertop & criminal sofa outfit.
But what did catch my eye was the big sign at the entrance that says:
Private Property
Any Flytipping Will Be Prosecuted
All Skips Are Under Surveillance
I don't have the slightest hint of a clue what that means. Can't even begin to guess. And it is bugging me a little. So if anyone is fluent enough in Soggy Limey dialects to translate what it is that's supposedly being watched & prosecuted, then TYIA for enlightening me.

It's actually the massive fort sized building that you see to the right of those little lock-up units.Quote:I imagine there's probably just a little rented broom closet sized "office" upstairs for the gangsta countertop & criminal sofa outfit.

Private Property... Do you guy's have the concept of public spaces where anyone can roam at any time? Well this is the opposite.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_property
Flytipping... A problematic crime where miscreants and scum just dump their rubbish at the side of the roadhighway
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_dumping
Skips.. You guys call them dumpsters. Some vagabonds go rooting around in skips to steal from them. Other vagabonds dump into them without permission.

With guidance from BBB and earlier threads, I did some research on the scumbags behind that spam. Very interesting.
It ACTUALLY IS a massive business that kicks out absolute sh1t quality kitchens and furniture. Hundreds of kitchens per week, all rubbish. The owner of the business 'Vance Miller' has served jail gaol time for ripping off his customers and has now moved to the Far East to avoid the legal authorities in the UK. Many of his managers and business associates have been thrown in jail gaol for similar crimes. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/former-girlfriend-vance-miller-five-11440853
The con business is still prospering.
Anyhow.... Another scamming profile from today

Another one.
Quote: HullabalooCould you just set it so posts from a new user, the first 3 or something, have to be cleared by a moderator? If it's spam they just delete the post and the poster, (perhaps with a single click), if it's not then it's approved. I wouldn't think it would take much time, probably less than it does chasing down the wack-a-moles.
In my opinion, and other Admins may disagree with me, there is a greater cost to be unduly restrictive to legitimate New Members than there is in a few spam posts remaining from time-to-time. In fact, we already introduced a restriction on the ability of new Members to post links recently, which is why the spam bots cannot post actual hot links.
Eventually it will be removed, either by a mod or by members flagging.
Big hoopla now solved.

blog spammer
And Alliedelle.
Michael Jackson Jr selling kitchens-no way! Lol.
Surely the new signups could be a little trickier to keep out the furniture spammers.

I don't get why this can't be fixed to eliminate first post spammers...perhaps mod approval of first posts???
Maybe there was an informative thread/post I didn't see.
Quote: DocI must have missed something along the way ... in the forum rules there is still #15 on the topic of flagging posts. However, it appears that the flag button has disappeared from all of the posts in all of the threads I can see. What's going on with that?

Newbies can be flagged.
(Yes an Admin has approved the link.)
