Damage done to the Forum

Started to title this "excuse my fart", then explain the title wasn't self explanatory but was meant to grab attention. Then almost went with "excuse my burp", not quite as crude, rude, and uncouth.
But 'damage done' seems the best of the 3 that ran thru my mind on short notice.
Was reading an older thread today, one I didn't remember reading before, so I had to start from page 1.
The thread itself wasn't all that memorable, but there was something about it that caught my attention.
There was a post by a long time and respected member, one that I realized I didn't remember seeing anything from recently.
So I went to members, checked the member, last post was June 1st, last visit shows June 20.
Last post was on a thread by, you probably already guessed, a sock puppet jungle beast.
The beast keeps popping up, but posts from the guy I was beginning to enjoy and identify with are missing.
Now I'm pissed. I could be wrong but I'm guessing that some of the weird drama has persuaded some old time members
and even some newer members to just throw up their hands and walk away.
Did I mention that I'm pissed off?

If you are angry that new members won't come then don't you think it would be a good idea to not start a thread and draw attention to it.

I don't know if the OP is lamenting the fact new members won't come, although that might be a part of it. I think he is more lamenting the loss of some long-standing valuable board members recently

My feeling is that this site is on the internet. It's open to anyone who can fill out an online form. For such low barriers to entry, it really is great how much good info, comradery, and conversation happens here. I would honestly expect more shenanigans and hate and conflict. Also, I imagine a big part of it is that the mods are active and good at what they do. But OP, I believe you when you say it used to be better, and I understand your reaction.

Do you think that a small paid subscription would solve some of the drama? I don't claim to know Wizard's intent, but I'm sure that membership is free to encourage new people and spread casino knowledge. I'm not too familiar with other forums like BJ21, blackjacktheforum, etc, but I wonder if they have dealt with similar shenanigans.

I understand your frustration as well. There have been times when I wanted to rant but decided against for 2 reasons. 1. Did not want to to e courage trolls and 2. Thought it would be bad for the forum and any potential new customers.

I don't know who the OP is talking about, but I miss AcesAndEights.

Haven't seen him around here for awhile. Several others are missing too.

Some of the people we don't see as often many just be taking a break from some of the drama; it has been annoying...

Some also may be on vacations.

I also get on some boards more around Vegas time. With no Vegas trips in sight right now, there are some that I don't visit often.

I just hope some of the disruptive forces find something else to do with their spare time!!

Exactly, frankly trolls are par for the course on the internet. Are they idiots...yes. Should they move out of their mothers basement and get a gf..yes. But it comes with the territory, just ignore them. I do...mostly.

People are still joining this forum left and right. Very soon the 10,000th member will join. Let's hope his name doesn't end up in red like so many other one time posters. It's interesting that they all stay on the books even though they will never post again. No wonder we're coming up on 10,000. Looks good on paper. I hope security is heightened in the upcoming weeks because as sure as I'm posting this, the 10,000th member will be someone who has been banned. Who do you think it will be? Who will win the bragging rights? Who's your favorite?

If the forum does incur damage I trust that the new owner will make the appropriate changes to right the ship and some here may not like it. This is and always has been a business. It is no one's personal playground. Don't shoot the messenger.

I hope the 10k member will be special and productive, but my guess is they won't be. Only 92 members (soon to be 93) have over 1000 posts. Some of the biggest people I would miss on the forum are between 1 and 2k posts. Mostly don't post just to post...but if something was important math-wise, then they'll post.

Bob, Axel, and Babs look to be 1,2,3 in the daily average.

What's the problem with the numbering? Wizard is #1, EvenBob is a Zero. Makes perfect sense to me. :)

Amazing that mkl654321 hasn't posted for more than 4 years and he's 31st on the list still.
