Wow. How did Scarface not make that list?
"wolf of wall street" 569 times. Wow.

I agree, but this forum is not primarily about art, literature, or freedom of speech, and doesn't exist in the public square and the rest of us aren't paying for it.
I'm pretty sure everyone would have different ways of running it, if in the same position. And people would still be (insert the b word) here either way.
I'm getting confused. What is the B-word? I thought it was the female dog, but it doesn't make sense here... Is it the British equivalent of "F-word-ing" that you mean?Quote: rxwineAnd people would still be (insert the b word) here either way.
Reminds me of the Frenchman in a British restaurant. He wants a "steak saignant" (=rare, but also bleeding) so he orders "a bloody steak". Unperturbed, the waiter asks: "With some fucking potatoes?"
(The fun is even better when you know that in French "fried potatoes" is "pommes sautées" and "sauter" is a colloquial for "screw, jump, fuck".)
OK I used profanity. See you in three days...
Quote: kubikulannI'm getting confused. What is the B-word? I thought it was the female dog, but it doesn't make sense here...
Per the Bible, I believe it translates into "one who is born of parents not married to each other"

It's female dog, but turned into a verb (ending in -ing.) It means complaining / whining.
I'd love to see post battles of the like : "You smurfing smurf!" "Go smurf yourself!" "Those smurfs don't smurf a smurfing smurf!"
Or even funnier: JB write an automatic replacement feature, writing smurf for every offending term...

The Wolf of Wall Street and Casino are F-word-ing awesome movies!
Quote: Mission146I believe you could use whore or bastard if you are not referring to a Member.
If all this talk is really about making the board more appealing to new members and showing them a climate that is not insulting.....why can we insult non members?
I mean if people are using insults against non members...could that upset newbies? Do they know if someone isnt a member. All they see is the insult,
All they see is someone being called a whore. All they see is someone being called a bastard. They have no clue if the person is an active member. In fact I got a ruling from the big man that banned and nuked people can be insulted.
calling a non member a sh-thead is ok because it shows respect for the board by not spelling the entire word out?
I thought maybe the new rules were more strict to include non members. But in your answer above you clarified that for me.

And B9's conduct was trolling? Will someone please make Larry a non-member so I can do as he suggests above.
It doesn't sound friendly, but then maybe it shouldn't be an invitation to assume rights and privileges that don't really exist, if push comes to shove. The Wizard can be wrong, but you still may be gone, for whatever that gains you.
Everything is negotiable in many forums, those are the bad forums. Nothing expressed in a forum is negotiable: its a deliberate act to opine in print. One is allowed into the "exclusive club" of the forum by obeying the rules. Ignorance of the forum rules is no excuse, as is ignorance of other's feelings. This isn't a light/dark issue these days, as most forums HAVE an agenda. A forum with an agenda IMHO is no different than political wrangling and opinion-spinning, and usually indistinguishable from such.

Great points Larry, and as usual some amazing questions/concerns for the mods. (And by usual I mean just about every 20 minutes)
I have an idea... Create your own forum, make a set of rules, and then force every single thread in your forum be dedicated to clarifications about those rules. So then, the same enjoyment and entertainment your posts now bring to WOV... Will be encompassing an entire new forum.

The common denominator to making yourself persona non grata in most moderated forums is causing conflict and other disruptive behavior rather than topics, fairness, political bent or whatever. Else, how do we manage to still have people of diverse views who don't manage to get in trouble?
Seems simple enough.

I actually laughed at this post, which appeared to be initally commending Larry, then ironically twisted it around. The first time I heard of Larry, he was suspended. I defended his suspension to the mods. Now I see I was wrong to do that. I commend the staff for making those tough calls that aren't exactly popular--more often than not they are correct. I have no idea what your post is talking about, but it looks like you mean Michael is non grata. I assume you must mean Larry.

My point was, when 80% of your posts are complaining to the mods about rule enforcement and rule interpretation, what's the point of even logging in?? No one is forcing him to view the forum and subject himself to the Wizards guidelines. Everytime I turn around he's complaining to Babs that she did this or that wrong... Often times about matters that have no effect on him personally. If your that paranoid that you're constantly being slighted or treated unfairly on a message board, then there are lots of others to post at.

Oh, I got your point--maybe not all the details, but in general. It was funny, because I thought I was about to read something in LS's defense, then bam. I can't tell who Rx is slamming. Which is also mildly amusing, because the last line of his post is "seems simple enough". Actually no, his post is a labyrinth.
Quote: 1BBAt the bottom of the list of the rules it says that anybody using WOV and DT should use the same handle. Is that a rule or a suggestion? If it's a rule, why have WOV members go to the trouble of joining DT? Why not make all WOV members automatically eligible to post on both sites? This would cause an immediate spike in activity there.
From a programming standpoint, I don't believe there is anything inherently linking the two sites. Besides that, it would also require Member Password access to make the Passwords the same, and I'm 99.9% sure we don't have access to anybody's passwords, either.
I think it simply that the software isn't that sophisticated. It's not funded by Google, it's just JB and maybe one other creating it from scratch. There is no tie between the two sites other than in spirit.
Quote: FaceI can't remember which thread, but Wiz specifically asked for the handles to be the same. I know of at least one person who was different and he immediately complied.

A suspension on one site gets you a suspension on the other. I guess that could be called a tie between the sites.

Aye, and I think that falls under "spirit". There's no physical or programmable connection, and none is possible. The sites are too different on the back end (if I remember the conversations correctly)
