Very frequently I will come across a gambling related story that I believe will be very interesting to our community. I would say about 50% of the time it never makes it to our forumn. Could someone please explain to me how I can list a link on a thread and make it active for the members. I am a one thumb wonder so please make easy for me to understand the procedure.
Thanks in advance.

See here (when you're replying to a post, there is a link to the formatting codes underneath the entry form).

To summarize:

If you want to simply show and link to the URL, surround it with and .

If you want to make specific text point to the link, surround the text with linked text.

Sorry to be a pest but what am I doing wrong?

This story is about cameras inside the shoes(where the playing cards come out) to aid in counting.

JB gave you an inaccurate answer.

In his summary above, only the second method will work.

Also, you had at least two typos. You forgot the two slashes after the http: and there needs to be a slash in the closing tag.

I.E. You'd need to enter it like this:

http://koreajoongangdaily.joinsmsn.com/news/artic
to get this: http://koreajoongangdaily.joinsmsn.com/news/artic

However, that STILL isn't right, because although this is now clickable, it is not a valid address.

And, did you REALLY want to post to a website that is in Korean? I doubt there are many members here that read Korean...

FWIW, I find the link= tags to be more intuitive than the url= tags. That's probably just how my brain works. I KNOW that I'm linking to a webpage, I don't CARE what a URL is (yes, I do know that, too...)

I will hopefully figure this out. This link is in english and is about some people working with some dealers to have micro cameras on the shoe boxes noting each card and the count available remotely available to the player. This went on for 3 years!

Both of the following formats:

http://www.something.com/

and

[link]http://www.something.com/[/link]

will now insert a link using the address between the opening and closing tags.

Inserting links without surrounding or [link] tags is still not supported yet.

In your browser, you should be able to right-click on the address near the top of the window, then click copy. Then come in here, start a new post, paste the link, and put before it and after it.

JB, on your formatting page you ought to give instructions for hiding text, as is done to prevent "spoilers"

the current trend is to black it out, which I have forgotten how to do
the next time Dame Fortune toys with your heart, your soul and your wallet, raise your glass and praise her thus: “Thanks for nothing, you cold-hearted, evil, damnable, nefarious, low-life, malicious monster from Hell!”   She is, after all, stone deaf. ... Arnold Snyder

The link works. And the article is in English, although the advertising and other stuff on the page is Korean...

---

Blackouts are simple. Just use a black background:

[bg=#000000]Like this.[/bg]

What's more complicated, is to make a post like this one, where I am using tags, as well as showing you what the tags are supposed to look like.

thanks ... this is very searchable now. I still think JB should add it to his page.

Actually, I was thinking of adding a
...
tag to the new version of the forum. It would provide a button you could click to reveal (or re-hide) the spoiler.

I think that would be good in general. Among other things, it would allow for posts in an Executive summary/body format. I could see that being beneficial for showing/hiding pictures, or showing/hiding a quoted article, in addition to the quiz-answering application.
