I was pissed. What I SHOULD have done was get the slot manager to look at it right away. Instead I left in a huff and it wasn't until 2 days later that I cooled off and went back to the casino on the strip and had the floor manager look into the machine. But the history only went back 10 games and my game was no longer showing. I was screwed.
Has anyone EVER seen a jackpot paid in pennies when the denom was 5 cents? Or a jackpot paid in ANYthing other than the denom? I've never seen that before. Just curious if this has ever happened to anyone else.
Quote: fetz7NeverWins - I believe you're right, I am shit outta luck. But what I am looking for is anybody else that has EVER seen anything like this. I have the machine number and I was using a player's card so there is SOME documentation. But it's the idea that it paid in pennies when pennies weren't the denom. That's what wrinkles my suit. Grrrr...

If I was you i would go back to the machine and read the help screen and take pictures of it. If it is not explained there I would play the game until it happened again and call Nevada Gaming Enforcement while you wait at the machine for them to show up.
Quote: fetz... Altogether I had about 9,000 credits and thought I had won about $450. But when the machine added up the total money it treated each "credit" as a PENNY instead of a nickel. So the total money win was $90 not $450...

Why didn't you contact the manager right away so that you could see the history of the last games?
Doesn't the screen show the amount in dollars at the top and not just in credits?
You probably weren't paying attention. I probably wouldn't have either.
But if it's as easy as making a few wagers until you win a spin you might have some means of complaint.

I hate it when that happens. I was in Laughlin one winter when this drunk barefoot cowboy kept swapping my red chips for his black ones whenever I got distracted. I called security, but they didn't take my complaint seriously. It was so unfair. If I swapped my chips for his, I'd go to jail, but he gets to swap with me whenever he wanted. It was sooooo unfair.
I got even, though. I bought two $50 gift certificates at the gift shop and didn't use them.

I don't get how the guy didn't get into trouble for STEALING your MONEY! 😵💫 A Poster said that he was silver mining slot machines after losing his money and found a "seemingly abandoned," slot with about $70 in it and cashed it out and attempted to change it at the Cashier cage but a Casino Staff Member who had been watching the "seemingly abandoned," slot caught him and made him give it back to the Player who had been in the bathroom. The guy said he got a temporary ban(A one week ban) for trying to steal someone else's money despite honestly thinking the money was abandoned. . IIRC, the Poster surmised that it was just a temporary one week ban since he IMMEDIATELY had to give back the TITO and didn't get to cash it at the kiosk or the Cashier cage or play with it. I don't get why the cowboy didn't get into ANY trouble for stealing your money like the Poster got in.
Also, I don't get how buying two $50 gift certificates at the gift shop and not using them made you get even. YOU just wasted your MONEY. 😵💫 I could FULLY understand if you ended up getting a HUGE jackpot and not tipping ANYTHING since you weren't helped when the Cowboy stole your money. 💡🤔

It’s funny that no one would ever think to take “seemingly abandoned” money in a bank vault at 3am, or a “seemingly abandoned” car parked on a quiet street in the middle of the night, or a “seemingly abandoned” lawnmower outside someones garage, but when they see “seemingly abandoned” money in a slot machine, it’s totally fair game.

I don’t think it’s a fair analogy. Would you pick up a ‘seemingly abounded $20 bill’ walking down a busy Manhattan street? I would. Would you pick up a ‘seemingly abandoned’ golf ball in the tall weeds? I do about 500-1000 times a year.
I think an unoccupied slot machine is more similar to my examples than yours. Now if there is a jacket on the chair in front of the slot machine, or if you saw a guy running to the loo from the machine, that’s different. I am aware of the rules, so I wouldn’t take any non negligible amount of money left on a slot machine. But I don’t think someone that would is necessarily evil.
I consider the situation. I'd enjoyed a comp meal on a card that wasn't mine. I'm playing on a different card that isn't mine, and I have a few cards in my pocket that are in other names. Do I alert the bartender, who knows me well enough to get my drink without asking when I sit? Do I stay and wait for the person to come back and claim it? I figured it was somewhere less than a hundred dollars, and I could hand them the cash if they showed up. The last thing I want is any involvement with security that might cause them to scrutinize my activity.
I'm not sure if I did the right thing, but I cashed out and left, avoided the casino for a week, and didn't cash the voucher for a month or so.
It got me thinking about how I'd altered my plans for Vegas to make a few dollars I didn't need. I left Vegas a few months later, tired of chasing free money.

I went to the "M" casino to play a particular machine. I sat down, slid in 5 $100 bills, then realized I was at the wrong machine. I panicked a little, got up and moved to the proper machine not realizing that I didn't cash out. It was probably a full minute before I realized and went back to the original machine right as someone was sitting down at it. I reached over their shoulder and pressed the cashout button. They just looked at me take the ticket and walk away without saying a word. I have no idea if they saw the $500 credits on the machine or not.

If my analogy is not fair yours would be the other end of the spectrum, but as you imply the real answer is probably somewhere in the middle.
People leave small amounts on machines all the time, sometimes even knowingly.
They’ll leave less than a dollar because its too much of a hassle to cash out. Or forget about a couple of dollars because its below the minimum bet, ie $5.
I was talking about large amounts that would be missed because people forgot to cash out, or they stepped away from the machine for a moment.
The difference from a bill on a street in Manhattan, or a golf ball in the weeds is that this money can clearly be tracked to the owner through a players card or surveillance.
