Epipens are a injection instrument used for people with bee sting allergies like me. Kind of a big syringe. I have 2 that have expired and need to be disposed of. But none of the drug drop offs or retailers will take them. I live in New York.
Any one know of someone that has disposed of them?
Here's who rejected them. Walmart (Where I bought them), New York State Police, major hospital, Kinney Drugs and the DMV. All have prescription drug disposal programs but specified no epi pens. This is nuts!
Thanks for any help.
PS- All places I tried were recommendations from others. So be very leery of any recommendations.

Check bathrooms for sharps disposal containers.
They seem to be at many major retailers.
If I remember correctly, they end up in the incinerator, just like drug disposals.

Epi-pens are expensive. Send them to me as I won't let me wife get new ones. She has expired ones and yours may be newer.

I took mine to my doctor's office and they dropped them in their sharps bins. But not until after I injected one into a lemon that was past it's prime. Wanted to see how it worked. I have them for allergy shots and my allergist has switched to something called Auvi-Q. Still epinephrine, just a different company. Doesn't go through insurance at all, costs $25 flat.

I will look into that. At that price I could get my wife one for Christmas and one for her birthday. She would be good for the year.

I called the people that make Epipens and they say that you need to put expired pens in an empty laundry detergent plastic bottle, put the top back on and just dump it in the trash.
I'm just surprised that no one, from the state police to a large hospital, did not know that.
I'm going with the Laundry detergent bottle!
And yes there are $25 at Epipens now. So Google it and that should be no problem them.
Thanks to all that responded.

Intriguing problem - one I’ve never needed to think about.
In my area, detergent bottles are recyclable. So if you stick an Epi in it, that would cause other problems.
