Quote: AsswhoopermcdaddyI hate taxis. I've come to the realization that many taxis will either take you via the long way or drive too slow to milk the clock. You are better off driving if you can. Setback is you should not be drinking if you're driving.
every week long trip I take to Vegas we budget $200 for taxi fares. Such a waste but what else am I going to do. I guess we could rent a car and it would be about the same but then I can't drink.

That depends on where you go. if you're confined mostly to the Strip and Downtown, including both outlet malls, bus passes for two for six days run you $80.

I have never taken the bus in Vegas. Where I live buses are not great so I NEVER take one around here so whenever I go to a place that has them I am afraid to try it. Plus then I would have to walk to the street and then stand there with a bunch of people.

You should try Mexico City :)
The Deuce and SDX, at least, are rather nice, clean, reasonably swift (when not bogged in Strip traffic) with relatively plentiful seating.

As opposed to walking to the cab stand at the hotel and standing there in line with a bunch of people? ;)
But you have a point. Waiting for the bus in skimpy, seatless bus shelters without adequate awnings or any kind of cooling system is the worst part of taking the bus in Vegas.
But you can drink, just not on the bus.

It depends on your level of activity. Each way cost me about $20......so $200 gets you what 5 round trips? I've driven from:
1.) One end of the strip to the other
2.) Outlet mall
3.) Airport
4.) Off strip casinos
5.) Multiple clubs
6.) Miscellaneous activities ranges, hiking, tourist stuff etc.
Also, don't ride it after you drink a 151 Hurricane (large slushy drink with 151). The bumps will make you sick as a dog.
What an overly crowded clusterf**k.
I'd rather just pay extra for a taxi.
Quote: ahiromuThe two issues is that it's pretty slow (makes a ton of stops)
This depends on which bus you take. The Deuce makes a lot of stops. The SDX (Strip and Downtown Express) makes fewer stops.
In addition the Deuce requires you to swipe your ticket when you board, and you can buy a ticket once you board as well. These two "features" slows boarding down a great deal. It's not uncommon to spend more time at stops than between stops.
The SDX does not require a ticket swipe. While you can purchase a ticket onboard, it's neither necessary nor very common.
Quote:AND it can be stupidly busy on the weekends.
Well, no way around that, I'm afraid. On my long trips I tend to stay "home" (ie within Downtown) between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning.
Quote:In addition, it isn't too cheap, like $6/day, but it's still way cheaper than the taxi when you're alone.
$6.66666666666666666 per day with the 3-day pass. I think a one-day pass is $7.
Last time I was at the South Transfer Terminal (you get off there, cross it and take the SDX back to the Strip), I noticed the ticket amchine there offers the 30-day pass. I think it goes for $60, though I may remember it wrong. Of course to get there I'd need a different ticket first, so add that. But for my long, long trips, it would make sense.
