Enjoy.
Hotels/Casino category.
Downtown Grand?
I noticed because have a reservation there in a couple months and looked for its category and didn't see it.
SLS
Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon is listed under "Defunct Casinos", but there is no forum for the Cromwell; similarly, the Sahara is under Defunct Casinos, but there is no forum for SLS. The D has its forum, but there is not one for the Downtown Grand; the Casuarina has a forum, but not the Max; the Hilton has a forum in spite of the fact that it became the Las Vegas Hotel quite some time ago and turned into the Westgate Las Vegas last summer; the Quad has a forum to replace the old one for the Imperial Palace, but the place is now known as the Linq.
Just curious as to whether there is any value and/or interest in keeping the "Las Vegas Casinos" forums list aligned with the list of casinos currently operating in Las Vegas.
Despite living in NJ, I've pretty much ignored the "Official AC Thread". After all, who decided that? Different threads for different topics work much better that having to wade thru a thousand posts.
On the flip side, it's kinda been bothering me about all the new threads that have been popping up under the Silver Nugget forum.
Quote: DieterNot seeing a "Midwest" category, is the Mississippi River the delineation between "East" and "West"?
I was going to say there needs to be a Midwest category as well.
Plus, why is there a whole category devoted to Mississippi? What's so great about that state? I've never been. if there is nothing out of the ordinary, why not make it the Gulf Coast category. That way you can cover Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida all in one category.

Agree, Gulf Coast category would be better. Don't know how much trouble it is to modify, but pretty sure Wizard hates it, sorry
In that vein of being a pain-in-the-arse, the "belly full o'beer and a possum in a sack" phrase makes no sense attached to the East Coast, it'd be appropriate for Louisiana, as you can see with a lyric search,

suggestions:
"Start spreadin' the news, I'm leavin' today. I want to be a part of it"
"Now I'm gonna show you how the East Coast rocks"
"the morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball"
Quote: tringlomaneHate to pile on for the outside of Nevada regions, but West/Gulf Coast/East/Midwest would be better. That's also the way VPFree2 does it.
How about North East and South East instead of East/Gulf Coast?
I don't know if any of those Florida cruise ships go out into the Atlantic.
Unfortunately for the Wiz, no good deed goes unpunished. I bet if you ask 10 different forum members, you will get 11 different opinions on how the sections should be categorized!
That said, please allow me to submit my $0.02. :)

Unless there are some I do not know about, more the FL gambling boats sail into the Atlantic than the Gulf (not to mention the GA and SC boats that can only sail into the Atlantic).
How about replacing MS and Eastern U.S. categories with: 1)"Atlantic Seaboard" which would cover casinos in most of the orig 13 colonies, except the Deep South; 2) "Southeast US" which would not only cover the Gulf Coast, but the FL/GA/SC boats as well as places like Tunica & Shreveport; and 3) "Midwest" that would cover, say, Pittsburgh/Buffalo to Chicagoland, and include MO & IN casinos.

As a representative of the proposed Southeast category, I would like to request this category description! ;)

What's your stance on Oklahoma? Midwest?

As a rule, if your state has a university whose nickname is "Cowboys," you must be classified in the "Western US" category! ;)
The now dead BlackJackInfo.com forums had the regions nicely split into Vegas, NV outside Vegas, Eastern US, Southern US, Midwest US, Western US, Canada, Australia, Europe, Asia/Africa/Far East and Caribbean/ Latin America. They don't have the clever subtitles though.
I think the current format is fine if we add Louisiana discussions for casinos in Shreveport and Lake Charles to the 'Mississippi' category.

Hooray bingo!
Good point, well presented.
The Gulf Coast category in vpFREE2.com includes casinos in all states that are on the Gulf, so all of Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. Inland cities like Tunica and cruise ships in the Atlantic out of Florida are in that category. (Would include Texas and Alabama if they had any real video poker.)Quote: wudgedHow about North East and South East instead of East/Gulf Coast?

I will also change the subtitle for eastern US.
Somebody asked where the dividing line is between western and eastern US. I think the Mississippi River is a good benchmark, but will leave that up to the readers to decide.
Regarding the groupings, I knew that no breakdown would please everybody. Seems to be that between Biloxi and Tunica, Mississippi has a pretty big market. I'm pretty sure that Mississippi has a larger market share than Atlantic City. Canada is a worthwhile suggestion but we don't get that many posts about it, especially since varmenti was nuked. As I recall, he liked the Niagara Falls casinos.
I'll review the breakdowns from time to time but don't feel like doing any fine tuning just yet.
Regarding the subtitles, I didn't want to make them too obvious. The eastern US was the hardest one to come up with. I agree that Louisiana is ambiguous whether it falls in the east or west, so, again, will replace that one.

The minor difficulty I see with the Mississippi as the dividing line is that it passes right through some (small) gaming centers: St. Louis, New Orleans, perhaps someplace else. Why draw a line that puts Casino Queen of E. St. Louis and Argosy Alton in the East but Lumiere Place and River City in the West? This is a bit of an exaggeration, but that solution is just a tad like drawing the line down South Las Vegas Boulevard and considering Paris Las Vegas to be in the "East" but Bellagio in the "West."
The only "better" suggestion I can offer right now (certainly not a perfect one) would be to divide the country at the border between Central and Mountain time zones -- that shouldn't split up too many things that should be clustered.

I agree the Mississippi River is a bad division. Midwest gambling markets have very similar characteristics, both east and west of the Mississippi river. And Gulf Coast casinos also have similar characteristics. The Central/Mountain time zone split for East/West is definitely better. Like tes, I personally would recommend the VPFree2 geography divisions.
