I know they have renovated the rooms and made some much-needed (IMO) improvements to the property.
Of course, I shouldn't be taking this guy seriously if he's really excited about a "Lucky Ladies" table... unless of course those "Lucky Ladies" are Flashing dealers, and I'm not talking about hole cards ;)
Quote: RICARDOHAMMOCH21I have the ability to snag two card twenties.....sir, this table is very fun.
It better be fun...You're paying a lot in expected value to be there.

Absolutely, I have no doubt that it's fun. And I'm sure short of grabbing the cards you're getting a ton of twenties on that table.
Your betting system, no doubt, works quite well.
Gold Strike is a highly recommended place in Tunica but most of the people I've talked to used to work there as dealers or floor men so I would expect them to recommend it.
I've heard of flood damage but imagine its all fixed by now.
Same rules apply: you will get comped in Tunica but have to ask. There are multiple casinos but they are not really all that convenient to each other. Other than casinos, you got cotton fields and soybean fields. Despite all they say about shopping outlets, they are far away and not worth it.
If you go there on a junket you will be bused from the Tunica (not Memphis) airport right away but it will take eons for your baggage to arrive so carry your money and pills on your person, not in your luggage.
A great many dealers seem to be perfectly willing to refer to side bets as Sucker Bets... though probably when the floor person is not too nearby. Admitting that its a sucker bet is probably a much appreciated honesty. Encouraging someone to avoid may be less common though than merely referring to it as a sucker bet and letting the player make up his own mind about it.

And remember, there are only two types of people who deal in Tunica.
1) People from Northern Mississippi who are religiously opposed to gambling and only work in a casino because the money is good and it's better than the abject poverty that the county experience before the casinos arrived.
2) Degenerate gamblers who know that Tunica is the best place in the country for comps, rooms and overall gaming experience. These will be the dealers who will either steer you away from those bets or HIGHLY encourage you to play them (although they really only push 21+3, which for side bets isn't as awful as LL)
Seriously, next time somebody goes there, find out where your dealer is from, and how often they gamble. You will get one of the two responses. And, btw, 95% of the poker dealers are Type 2 (not diabetic though).

Mississippi is a real trippy place, its like a foreign country.
They still privately practice segregation, but nobody admits
it. Blacks and whites really don't want anything to do
with each other there. And the poverty is astounding.
Quote: Mikey75I know this is a old thread but I thought it would be better to post here rather than start a new one. I'm going to be at GoldStrike this weekend. When I called to reserve a room I asked for a king bed and non smoking. I was told that they would put that as a request on my reservation but it would not be guaranteed. If they had a king non smoking avaliable I would get it but basically I would have to take whatever they had avaliable. I'm trying to get this straight. I'm staying at a multimillion dollar complex that brings in billions of revenue a year and they can't tell me if they have a king non smoking avaliable???? The super 8 can do better than that. Is this a standard operating procedure for a casino hotel?
In Mississippi it is for CET properties. In Vegas it usually is too I think for most properties. Missouri as well. It isn't in Indiana because of a newish state law. It's terrible, imo. If you are coming in Friday or Saturday, I highly recommend you check-in before 7pm if possible. The earlier the better. Most Tunica hotels have more smoking rooms than current demand dictates, so non-smoking can run out, especially on a weekend. Once we didn't get to Horseshoe until 9pm on a Sunday. They were out by then even on a Sunday! We asked if we could be moved to Harrah's and they obliged. That's how much we value a non-smoking room.
The few times we have shown up around 7pm on Saturday, Harrah's Tunica will try to bait and switch us with a smoking room. This also happened to us at Rio last trip when we showed up at 9:30pm on a Saturday. They were trying to give us a smoking suite instead, and we ended up taking two non-smoking queens since those were the only non-smoking rooms left. If they do that, clearly state you want a non-smoking room like you initially asked and hopefully they will still have some in their inventory that they are trying to preserve.

That's insane, I've never been given a smoking room or been pressured into taking one at any CET property in Nevada. My trip dates may be off-peak, I dunno (mostly either December, January, or March).

When is the latest you've checked in though? If you always check-in before 7pm in Vegas, you'll probably never encounter this. And hell, maybe us being Gold has something to do with it too...lol Also that Rio check-in we had was Dec. 1st, fwiw. And on weekdays, it probably isn't as much of a problem either. But when you book CET rooms online for Vegas, smoking and non-smoking are not separate room choices for booking. For Horseshoe Southern Indiana, they are thanks to this: "Due to Indiana state law beginning July 1, 2012, all guests must be 18 years or older to stay in a smoking room at Horseshoe Southern Indiana."

I don't remember all of my check-in times, to be honest. Usually I'm either coming in in the morning or late at night. But I've never had issues with my late night check ins. But those might be weeknights. I dunno, I'm not going to cross-reference all of my trip histories, but thank you for the warning!
I find the bolded text curious though. When you book on the TR website, there is a radio button for smoking/non-smoking. There is this warning: "We will make every effort to fulfill these requests; however, preferences can not be guaranteed." But it is at least a "separate room choice." It's probably just your wording that I find to be somewhat incorrect - it's a separate choice, that isn't guaranteed.
Quote: tringlomaneYeah, thats a preference, not a booking choice. At S. Indiana, they are two completely different booking choices. Currently non-smoking king is sold out for Friday night, smoking king is available. And smoking king is sold out for Saturday night, non-smoking king is available. Weird...lol Personally, I would rather have Vegas hotels be this way to guarantee a non-smoking room.
I whole-heartedly agree. And your choice of nomenclature makes sense now..."booking choice" i.e. the list of rooms on the previous page from which you select vs. preference on the next page.
Quote: Mikey75I just thought that it was odd that I could reserve a room at a low end chain and get guaranteed a non smoking room but I couldn't here. My stay is being cut short but it's worked out to where I am leaving early. I'm going to find out how soon I can check in. I should be there by 12.
I have always gotten the room I requested at the Gold Strike and I have stayed there a lot..
Playing Craps Fri evening I was joking and talking with the dealer when he said "where else can you go and have this much fun and get free eats and drinks". I took the chance then to ask him if I could get two buffets for that night. I had been playing about a hour betting $5 pass line with $10 odds. That was pretty much the only bet that I was playing at that point as it was my first time and I was a little intimidated. The dealer took my card and passed it to the pit boss. A couple of minutes late the pit boss greated me with a big smile and said it was all took care of just swipe my card at the register for the buffet. Later that night I asked for and recieved two buffets to the Sat morning breakfast. Tunica has to be the small roller capital of the world!! The GoldStrike certainly made me feel like a high roller. For the record this was the first trip that I used a rewards card there so there was no activity on it before this trip. I got both the breakfast and dinner buffets comped and when I checked my card today I have a little over $10 in express comps. I was up $350 at one time at the craps table and left $155 up. So my winnings covered my hotel cost and my meals where free so I came home with the same bankroll that I left with!! Had lots of fun and it didn't cost me anything. If I could only be that lucky everytime!!
The GoldStrike certainly get my vote as a place to play and stay in Tunica and I won't be even looking at offers anywhere else anytime soon.

What about gas?
/debbie downer
Quote: AcesAndEightsWhat about gas?

It's a fair question. From the St. Louis suburbs (5.5 hours to Tunica one way without stops), our trips run from $100-$150 for gas roundtrip (usually our most expensive cost on the trip)...depends on prices and casino hopping and trips to Memphis/Southaven, MS for actual price amount.

I'm glad that with our (and the dealer's) encouragement you spoke up about comps! For some strange reason that is really necessary in Tunica. You were new and not particularly a high roller but you were taken care of. I'm glad your first trip went so well.
Just about ALL casinos have activity levels that break down into "Day" and "Night" as well as into "Weekend and Weekday". Sure various casinos can quibble about the dividing lines but in general things are busy Nights and Weekends. That is one reason why I often hit the tables quite early in the day and why I prefer to arrive in a casino on a Monday or Tuesday. Its the slow check in time so lines are short and its often virtually empty in the casino. Yes, its often true that early check ins are given less desirable rooms, but I never really care much about my room anyway. If I look out the window and see the elevator shaft, I really don't much care.
When things change to the night shift particularly on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, its easy to feel the shift in the atmosphere. People are busy, tables are crowded, dealers are going fast. Drinks are coming faster, too. Its simply a faster pace and its obvious that casinos will try to maximize their busy times by keeping places filled and the dice/cards/whatever moving fast. Its understandable and its like driving: if I'm unable to keep up with the fast lane, I move over to the slow lane.
The same rule applies: ASK. Remember, however, that virtually ALL casinos have two standards for Room Comps. Week Night Comps and Week End Comps. Monday thru Thursday comps are usually a totally different world than Friday, Saturday and Sunday Comps.Quote: Mikey75Now I'm wondering if room comps are that easy to get as well.
And of course no one really blames them. They make most of their money on the weekends.
Tunica is definately the king of comps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't reccomend Gold Strike enough.
