Seems like good PR:
Guests who visit the players club booths will be made aware of a nearby, interactive kiosk that provides information about various gambling issues. Trained employees can also provide brochures that list useful tips.
Among them:
“Gambling outcomes are random. Play for fun instead of for the money.”
“In the long run, you won’t lose if you play with money you can afford to lose.”
“Don’t bring ATM cards with you to the casino floor. This helps you stick to a budget.”
“It’s not cool to borrow from friends to gamble.”
Wow! Does anyone do that. I can't conceive of ever doing that under any circumstances. It would be like asking the wife to procure me a hooker.Quote: JohnnyQ“It’s not cool to borrow from friends to gamble.”

Will they inform you, if you're too good and you cant be beat, they will kick you out and not inform you why? Gotta love these corrupt hypocritical piece of scum organizations.
Gambling outcomes are random? So now they subconsciously lie to gamblers? If it was random, why does every gambler lose in the long run? Random implies 50/50 odds? Once again hypocritical greedy scum casinos. They deserve the absolute worst.
And what the hell does this blanket statement even mean? “In the long run, you won’t lose if you play with money you can afford to lose.” Really? I have never heard something as contradictory and pathetic as that.
Im not sure theres anyone else in the world that has such an anger towards casinos than i have. Everything they stand for is a complete mockery of what a human should stand for. Disgusting immoral piece of scum garbage trash.
No, it doesn't.The MegaMillions and Powerball lottery drawings are random, but not 50/50, nope not by a long shot.Quote: ZenKinGRandom implies 50/50 odds?

You missed my point. Casinos are deliberately subconsciously getting gamblers to think random means 50/50
Put out a pamphlet titled You Can't Win.
Post signs on the machines saying, "betting at this level will cost you xx per hour".
Bottom line, people would still fill the seats.
Quote: OnceDearWow! Does anyone do that. I can't conceive of ever doing that under any circumstances. It would be like asking the wife to procure me a hooker.
I think many of us have done this under limited circumstances once we are already in the casino. I've borrowed a couple hundred from a friend at the table to get through the shoe instead of immediately going to the atm. Also misjudged a progressive slot more than once and needed to borrow/split to make it through.
This line is utter nonsense.
I fail to see how. Even the average person will occasionally wonder if a coin flip is 50/50 or not.Quote: ZenKinGYou missed my point. Casinos are deliberately subconsciously getting gamblers to think random means 50/50
Nonsense? Hardly. This is just another way of saying “Bet with your head, not over it.”Quote: rainman“In the long run, you won’t lose if you play with money you can afford to lose.”
This line is utter nonsense.
3) Thou shalt expect to lose
- The Las Vegas Strip was not built by winners. Even with good rules and strategy the odds are still usually in the casino’s favor. So don’t get mad if you lose. Think of it as the price you pay for entertainment.
5) Thou shalt not over-bet thy bankroll
- Before you gamble determine what you can safely afford to gamble with - as entertainment money. Stick to your limits and don’t gamble with money you need for necessities.
These have similar themes to the common-sense MGM guidelines:
“Gambling outcomes are random. Play for fun instead of for the money.”
“In the long run, you won’t lose if you play with money you can afford to lose.”
“Don’t bring ATM cards with you to the casino floor. This helps you stick to a budget.”

TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS.
Every once in a while, it’s a good idea to walk away from the game you’re playing. Taking a break can help you make smarter decisions, so gambling stays what it should be – a fun activity.
SET A TIME LIMIT BEFORE YOU PLAY.
When you make a plan for how much time you can afford to spend gambling (and stick to it), you are more likely to stay within your set budget and not miss out on the other things you need to do.
PLAY FOR FUN, NOT TO MAKE MONEY.
If you gamble, the result is never certain and losing is always a possibility. Consider gambling as a form of entertainment, like going out for dinner or seeing a movie – not as a source of income.
SET A BUDGET AND STICK TO IT.
Keeping it fun means playing within your means. When you set and stick to a budget, you spend only money you can afford to lose.
DON’T CHASE LOSSES. ACCEPT THEM AS THE COST OF ENTERTAINMENT.
Wondering if you can win back losses by playing more? It’s possible, but unlikely. Chances are the more you play, the more money you’ll lose. “Chasing losses” almost always leads to bigger losses.
BALANCE GAMBLING WITH OTHER TYPES OF LEISURE ACTIVITIES.
Finding other types of entertainment to enjoy will help make sure that gambling doesn’t become your main activity or too big a part of your life.
But my spidey senses are telling me this may have something to do with the Oct. 1 shooting.
Yeah, it seems to me to be the normal generic stuff we have all seen many times before. Maybe what is new is that they are going to have some kiosks with this info.Quote: RSI don't see what the problem with this campaign is.....I think it's all good, as far as I can tell.
If nothing else, I think they are getting some good publicity about it judging from the article I saw.

This GameSense plan by MGM has been in the design process for over a year. The following is a story about it from March in the LA Times.
http://beta.latimes.com/travel/deals/la-tr-las-vegas-gamesense-mgm-gambling-control-20170306-story.html
Quote:Back in the days when Usenet still mattered, I used to post something (usually to alt.vacation.las-vegas and/or rec.gambling (before it was split into subgroups)) called "Ten Basic Rules of Gambling." After a little editing, I have gotten them down to Five Basic Rules:
1. THE PRIMARY RULE OF GAMBLING: BEFORE YOU BET IT, ASSUME THERE IS A CHANCE YOU WILL LOSE IT. Don't bet it if you need it. (In the words of Oscar Madison (from "The Odd Couple"): "There is no such thing as a 'sure thing'; that's why they call it 'gambling'.")
Never, ever, ever, ever, evereverever, EVER, did I mention "ever", ever, bet anything under the assumption that "I'll win it back eventually." Remember that every light, every bit of carpeting, and every one of those "free" drinks is paid for with the difference between what the losers lost and what the winners won. (Well, that and the price of tickets for whatever show the casino is hosting.)
The wording may be colorful, but I appreciate the intent.
Same as it ever was.

The line is nonsense your gonna lose regardless if its disposable income or your mortgage payment.
They are just planting a seed so people can and will justify losing.
Uh, which might be why their PR dept included this line:Quote: rainmanThe line is nonsense your gonna lose regardless if its disposable income or your mortgage payment.
"...play with money you can afford to lose.”

Yes great PR work, but we all know its addictive and most addicts wont be able to control themselves.
These great gems of friendly caring insight created by the PR department are not done because they care about patrons
its done for public image concerns. When the product your selling damages and destroys people like
tobacco, gambling or liquor you better have a great PR department.
So, what do you suggest ? Should you have to register and show proof of income before you can gamble ? Have the casinos cut you off when you exceed some loss % of your income ?Quote: rainmanWhen the product your selling damages and destroys people like

For regular people, yes. For others, that's taking it easy.
Of course, far too often, BAD luck happens...Quote: MrVI like the Spirit Mtn. casino's motto: "Luck happens."
Quote: djatcI was just talking about this with someone and it would be more awesome if casinos had a "try to win our money, but you'll probably lose sucker" attitude on their advertising.
Trump used to have a billboard by the Lincoln Tunnel. It's been years but it was pretty much him with a bundle of money, and the logo was something like "I got it You want it. Come take it. If you can." Always though it was pretty good.
