I'm wondering what the requirements are to get a host at the Luxor.

I've recently really enjoyed playing craps at their casino. Got an offer from them for:

3 Complementary Nights in Tower Room
$100 in freeplay
$25 resort credit
1 Complementary Bottle at LAX or Savile Row
Resort Fee Waived On Complementary Nights
Mlife checkin at main lobby
25 percent off friends and family

I spent a bunch on craps playing there last time I stayed at Mandalay Bay. How close am I to getting a casino host here? I'm a about 25k from platinum and would make it next trip if it wasn't for the points reset oct 1.

Should I bother asking for a host, or is it pointless even with that offer?

Never hurts to ask, but without the info on how much you b et and for how long it is tough to give a good answer. If you are a quarter passline player with max odds spreading $200 on the numbers then I'm sure you'd get hosted. If you are betting a dime with odds only probably not....

You'll probably get a better deal with that corporate offer - host offers typically don't come with freeplay unless you play mostly slots. But it certainly doesn't hurt to have a host - they can comp food, tickets, etc. on top of that offer if you end up playing enough to allow them to do so. I was in the same position as you and managed to squeeze a last-minute trip in this past week to get platinum - I'm rated at maybe $90/hand for 4 hrs a day average and get free rooms - have gotten free food and show tickets as well, although I rarely ask for them. The Luxor is one of the easiest Strip properties to get comped at if you are genuinely there to gamble.

In terms of how much you need to bet to get a casino host, unless you're betting $100/hand or spinning the slots like mad, they are unlikely to seek you out. But if you show interest in becoming a regular customer, you can get one with lower play by seeking them out instead. I'd estimate that $50/hand x 4hrs rating would be enough to get their consideration. Tier Credits aren't really a good indication of how much you can get comped or whether you can get a host, because they can be earned from resort spend (hotel, dining, shows, etc.). Hosts are only interested in your ADT (average daily theoretical loss).

To help set the hook, and also to make things easier: set up a line of credit, at least $10K.

First, tier level is irrelevant. Comps depend on ADT. Tier rewards are their own "comp" for the tier you've achieved -- platinum could come from min-betting for dozens of 3-day trips or from one giant blowout weekend. The first isn't that useful to the casino, and the latter customer might never repeat that performance. As a corporation, the Luxor wants to vet your reliability as an income source. They prefer to see players that make regular trips (a consistent 3+ times per year) for several days (2 or 3 is good) and bet a good number of hours each day, because what they want to see is a reliable ADT.

Since this offer should be in line with your ADT, we don't really need to know how much you're betting; the offer tells us. That said, if this is your first offer, it could be juiced up a bit to help "develop" you as a player (read: make you gamble more next time), and, hence, you'd need to bet even more to get a host.

I'd say you're about halfway to getting a host. From what I've seen at other MGM properties, a host will approach you about when your offer is 2x to 3x a comp suite -- that is, a comped suite plus $-denominated goodies worth about the same as the casino rate on the room.

Don't worry too much about getting an assigned host. Clerks at the mLife desk can handle a lot of comping, and unless and until you want something specific and think your play justifies it, having a regular host won't do much for you. "Something specific" would be (eg) VIP tickets to a music performance or sport event, VIP service at a specific restaurant, a couple bottles and entry for you and a few friends at a big club on a busy night, or really anything similar to the "mLife Moments".

AND... if you're planning a return visit, you could walk in to the VIP area, tell them when you plan on returning, and ask for what you want -- for me it was a larger, nicer room vs the other stuff -- and they should be very accommodating.

Finally... it's two years later. What'd you find out? :)

Haha, I ended up building a relationship with a host there who has been taking care of me when I end up at the Luxor. I approached one instead of the other way around, but she's taken care of me since then (with suite upgrades, some gifts in the rooms, and getting awesome tickets to shows). Seems like it's pretty easy to build a relationship with one if you just ask.
