Here is a post I pilfered and excerpted:
In recent years we have seen an influx of new table games that have redefined the casino floor. Traditional table games such as Roulette, Craps, Blackjack, and Baccarat are still available and very popular, but recently games like 3 Card Poker, Caribbean Stud, and Let it Ride have begin to dip in to the gambling pool. With an interest existing for new and exciting casino games, 2011 has seen several new games arrive on the casino floor.
Rupert’s Island Draw – This is a game, invented by Survivor’s Rupert Boneham, that is touted as blackjack meets baccarat but the cool thing is that Rupert is donating 20% of the proceeds to his charity, Rupert’s kids.
Three Dice Football – This game tries to combine the excitement of Craps with the excitement of football, two things that I love in life. I like that there are several rolls before a win or loss is determined. It adds to the anticipation of the game.
Scossa – This game is a dice version of roulette. Every bet hovers around one roll. The odds are decent, not great, but there are plenty of bets with a 2.7% house edge. Scossa also has a spot on the felt to tip the dealer, a first as far as I know in table games.
While its fun to try these new games, I always find myself gravitating back to the tried and true. Casinos are definitely trying to find that new table game to promote like they do with 3 Card Poker and Blackjack Switch. It will be interesting to see how these games do.
..................................................
I thought all you game developers might be interested in this.
Note the "multiple rolls adds to the anticipation" which is something I had never even considered. And yet Scossa with its One Roll Only and then Win or Lose is praised too.
I agree with the over all sentiments. I have enough trouble with the existing games before I go wandering off to explore something that is extremely novel and experimental.

" Casinos are definitely trying to find that new table game to promote like they do with 3 Card Poker and Blackjack Switch."
I am preety sure it was Roger Snow in some article that said he never had anyone in casino management call and ask if
Shufflemaster had any new table games available. I do know the inventor of 3 card poker said the hardest thing he ever
had to do was try and get his game onto any casino's floor. If SWITCH reads this, maybe he will comment. Or Dan Lubin
or Math Extremist. Whoever wrote your article is definitely ignorant.

Absolutely true. Casino directors are not falling over themselves to get new games in.
- SOME places will try new games: Scossa, Three dice football, Rupert island's, what have you. Very few novelty games hang on to replace out other and better carnival games.
- I am not optimistic about the new crop of games in the first half of 2011: Scossa (okay), three dice Football (?), Rupert's island (ack), Easy over Under, etc.
It's next to impossible to come up with something that's
- better than what's out there,
- not previously thought up and patented by others
- is appealing to Table game directors
- would perform better for the casino and players than what it replaced,
- etc.

Before anybody gets riled up, by ignorant I mean uninformed. Not stupid as some people infer.

Nobody meant otherwise about anyone here or there, buzz. We are all innocently ignorant because we are clueless as to which games will take off.
Making heads-or-tails out of the flurry of new games, and where we're going to be six years out is very hard to tell for anyone.
The only way to really know if a new fangled game will make it, after the initial idea "seems good"
and "passes math"
and "passes the table games director"
is to throw it onto the casino floor as a big gamble
and wait and see.
The industry players themselves are baffled, forget about us peons...
In this business we gamble...on some new games here and there.
We're all ignorant until something passes the test of time.

Decades ago Ford threw the Edsel on the market and suffered dreadfully. It was later decided to do focus groups rather than commit a fortune to machine tooling a production line and then find out something was a flop.
If the gambling industry finds that ultimately all their studies are insufficient to predict the behavior of the gambling public, that will be nothing new.
Innovation can be technical such as more information concerning the players at old established games or it can be information about new games and how players react to them. It still innovation. I tend to think the emphasis should be on the existing games rather than the new and unusual games that the casino (and the game inventors) hope will become madly desired by the public.
Yet innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit can be applied in several areas of casino operations. A newly invented game is but one area in which a casino keeps itself on the cutting edge of players whims and desires.

Hey, in RETROspect, the Edsel is one of the coolest cars
ever produced. Especially if you got all the options and
the big V8.
