You sit down at a 100 play machine for the first time. After putting in your cash, you use the button marked, "Hands" to select "5", intending to play five hands at a time. Near that button is another marked "Bet Max Coins". If you're intention is to bet the maximum amount of coins for each of your five hands, should you push this button?

On slot machines "bet max coins" means "play the maximum number of credits on the maximum number of lines", considering the denomination of coin you selected if it's a multi-denom machine. Why should vp be different?

It means you might bet all your money on one pull. I did this accidentally on the blackjack game in a lot of the game king units, I figured I was betting 1.25 since that is what max vp was. Well I ended up betting $20, the max bet was 80 coins I think (.25*80=$20). I almost had a heart attack since I only stuck $20 in the machine. Fortunately I got dealt a blackjack which of course paid 1:1. I considered myself lucky cashed out and left. I know the video blackjack game is a lousy one to play, but when I am sitting at the casino bar $5 can last a long time at a quarter a pop and I enjoy more than my share of free drinks.

"Bet Max Coins" on that 100 play poker machine means to bet the max (5 coins?) on all 100 hands. If you don't have enough credits for that, it will max out as far as the money will go.
I always get confused on my first hand, which buttons to hit so it will do 100 hands at one coin. But I know to not hit that Max button until I'm running low on credits.

They also place the max button next to the play button hoping you hit the wrong one.

I think they are required by law to flash a message that says how many coins the maximum play will require. It is a little jarring when you are used to "max play" being set to 5 coins, and in another casino you find it set at 80 or 100 coins.

The "Max Bet" could certainly have been more than $20. The button took everything you had up to the max and put it on the one hand.
My gripe with the Game King multi hand VP machines is that there is a button for selecting the number of hands, but no clear button marked "coins per hand". Should you hit the "max" button, there is no going back. The hand is automatically dealt, applying the maxium bet allowed to the MAXIMUM number of hands your current bankroll can support, NOT THE NUMBER OF HANDS YOU JUST SELECTED. There is no, "Bet X hands at Y coins each?" fail safe.
