$1 triple play Stp 8/5 bp (99.4%)

# of spins it took to get a multiplier:
8x,16x,9x,19,4x,9x,6,1x,29x,4,3,24x,4x,7,3,20x,2x,11,8x,10
X means whiffed on the multiplier
(363 spins, 1:18 multiplier, lost $900)

60% whiffs... Wtf?!?

Usually the Super Times Pay tells you the frequency in the help page. I know it varies by the paytable but I think around 14 is common on 8/5 BP.

I'm not complaining about the frequency of multiplayers.
1:18 spins close enough to 1:14 with the small sample size.

What I find unbelievable is 60% of the multipliers I get nothing on all 3 lines.
It's like spinning 20 times and 12 of those times you don't win anything.

In triple play bonus poker, it's very hard to go even three spins without winning something on at least one line.

Am I approaching 2 sd in variance with 60% whiffs in multipliers?

No score happens 26.1743% of the time with optimal strategy.

You had a bad evening. The mean number of "whiffs" would be expected to be 5.2349 with a standard deviation of 1.9659 whiffs. So, you were 3.4413 standard deviations worse than the mean.

Based on the binomial distribution, the probability of 12 or more whiffs on 20 tries is less than 0.15%, which makes the odds against that event occurring in a random draw of 20 multipliers to be around 688 to 1.

Should I have said, "A VERY, VERY bad evening"?

Have you played that game at that casino before and had better results?

If 689 people had played that game until they received 20 multipliers, then 1 person would have been expected to do as poorly or poorer than you did that evening on a fair machine. That's really all that I could say based on what you reported. Others may feel differently. That was compounded by the fact that you also got fewer than expected multipliers, so your monetary results could be expected to be even worse than what that number of whiffs usually produces.

If you played every day, you might expect 12 or more "whiffs" out of 20 multipliers every 23 months or so.

But I certainly wouldn't find fault with you if you chose to avoid that game or that casino in the future.
