The best VP in Vegas is at the Palms. They have fullpay 20/7 Joker and fullpay Deuces Wild in .25 denoms. These games pay 100.65% and 100.76%, respectively. The slot club points are worth an additional .25% in free play. No mailers or other offers are sent to those who play only such games, but it's still almost a 1% edge. Moderate speed (600 hands/hr) yields a win rate of $7+/hr. You shouldn't stay at the Palms (expensivissimo), but rather, across the street at the Gold Coast. Giving them (the GC) some moderate action on their NSUD video poker machines will result in multiple room offers; this is a great play for those who plan to return. The room rates at the GC fall in the $30-60 range.

The South Point is perhaps the best overall value. Their video poker is weaker, with 99.73% NSUD being their best game, but their slot club gives 0.3% cashback, and their mailers are strong. I get quarterly offers of three free nights, $50 food credit, and $50 slot play. They also have frequent promotions, such as double points on selected days. They will be offering a royal bonus of 40 extra bets (i.e., $50 on a .25 machine) for a royal flush, which adds about 0.1% to the machines' payback. They also will pay double for a dealt royal. Rooms there are very comfortable and bargain-priced. You are somewhat isolated from the rest of the Strip, but they have everything you want already there: several excellent restaurants, movie theater multiplex, bowling alley, poker room, sports book, etc. etc. The Prime Rib restaurant is terrific (and you get a twofer coupon in the funbook that they give you when you register). The buffet is about average, but it's cheap.

They probably do, but apparently not at VP. The banks in question have been played for years by small-time APs, with results apparently congruent with expectations. The Palms has just put in a couple of new banks with 100%+ games, per VpFree2.

I did you the courtesy of treating your response at face value. Probably a mistake, but...

Well I should have given the Palms some play, but I really did not like my stay at Gold Cost (my review is on this site!). I would be willing to give sweat point some action as I have never been there. I think more of the off strip properties are wising up to the fact they need some good gambling options to get people away from the strip. I believe the best video poker is the 101% return deuces machine the Wiz wrote about at the Fitz downtown. I played it for about an hour but never got ahead significantly (+100 credits)

Well, that's a lonely, dusty, creaking ol' coin-dropper Loose Deuces NICKEL machine....

The off-Strip properties have ALWAYS offered better gaming value than the tourist-trap megatoilets. For one thing, they cater to a more savvy local crowd, that demands value, and will visit their favorite casino several times a month. The out of towner sheep are in Vegas once or twice a year, for only a few days, so they need to be sheared quickly.

I think you might like South Point. It's a nicer property than GC; like Suncoast up in Summerlin, it was also built by Coast Casinos but was intended to cater to a more upscale locals' crowd than the GC (which is in anything BUT an upscale neighborhood).

I like the Palms, too. You should also mention that they have very good promotions sometimes where you can earn things like giftcards and prizes for a certain amount of coin-in. Usually you have to play 9/6 Jacks or worse because the better machines are excluded. Last time I was there I played 5-play $.25 Jacks and earned a $100 Visa gift card and a $10 McDonald's gift card (woohoo!). Plus they tripled my points for that day, and invited me back with a package that ended up being worth $1800 or so on the fair market. Probably my most profitable day of gambling ever (and I lost $350 on the game itself). So yeah, Palms is alright with me :)
----------------------------
SouthPoint is such an unattractive casino compared to Palms, and it is a pain to get to. Their 50 and 100 play nickel NSUDs are loads of fun, though. I went up $400 and then down $400 in the space of a couple hours there last time I played. Great hot dogs!
----------------------------
Gold Coast has 5x point days where some games turn positive, like the NSUD and some of the SuperTimesPay and MultiStrike machines. I often see pros making those plays. You have to put up with a lot of variance, though.

If this is the best Vegas has to offer, VP in Vegas sure has declined in the past few years.
