Was vulturing $0.50 5play UltX double double bonus and got dealt AAA45.
it was a horrible pay table but don't remember exactly what. 7/5?
I don't remember the strat for this situation since I don't play ddb except when vulturing.
I held the kicker and wiffed. :(
according to the Wiz's calculator it doesn't matter much if it's 7/5 or 9/6 ddb.
all are about the same EV. Here's the Top3:
AAA = 12.5
AAA4 = 11.75
AAA5 = 6.75
so it seems I didn't lose that much EV by holding the kicker. PHEW.
but looking back, since I don't play ddb, I think I should have just held the 3Aces because I'm probably not going to run into that situation that often in my lifetime.
more chances at winning 800 credits is better than a wishful homerun of 2000 credits which may never hit in my lifetime?
but at the .50 denom, AwK would have been $1000 (and probably no W2G) would have been SWEET tho.
edit:
But since this is UltX, it might be better to go for the homerun for the off-chance it gets the multiplier?

You don't hold a kicker with AAA in DDB. In fact, you dump Aces full to go for the quads.
DUHHIIIIIIIII HEARD THAT!

I knew about dumping aces full. that's the same in double Bonus (except 10/6 or 10/7).
also in DB, I know u don't hold a kicker but since ddb has a much better payout with a kicker, I was unsure.
plus that $1000 payout also helped me decide on holding the kicker.
if it was any other denom I would have probably just held AAA.
there's something about getting as close to the $1199 limit w/o going over...

No kicker.
Invest in the Wizard's video poker wizard app if you have an iPhone.
I'm surprised it is that close.

You can get one for <$100 now I think.

The threshold for the kicker with AAA isn't too high. About $574.50 for Aces with kicker at 9/6 or 9/5 quarters if Aces only is $200. Also at 7/5 DDB, you should also break 2-4s full when vulturing slash playing straight up.

Did you mean 9/5 or 8/5 (for the AAAA @ $200)?

thx to this thread, I suggested to a stranger next to me playing 10play Triple Double Bonus to hold the kicker on 2223K.
He draw 22232 in one of the hands for 2000 credits! (.05 denom)
Recap of this thread:
in ddb, it was close in holding the kicker or not with AAA. (NOT holding the kicker was slightly +EV.)
quad As = 800, quad As w/kicker = 2000
in tdb, quad 2s w/o kicker = 400. 2s w/kicker = 2000.
since it was close with AAA in ddb in holding the kicker or not, i thought holding the kicker was the better play in tdb since the difference in payouts was that much wider. (400/2000 vs 800/2000)
i just ran the wiz's hand analyzer and i was right.
it was +EV to hold the kicker in tdb:
2223 = 10.79
222 = 8.88

The paradox is possibly by holding the kicker, you blocked out the ace with a kicker you drew. Not as unlikely as just killing the fourth ace alone, but it may have been. Those simple rules people know and you would have heard about it before you desired to run an audible.
Of course, video poker.com used such a story in a recent newsletter where the wife arguing with her husband did this and nailed it. Kind of a bad suggestion for a site teaching skill. Even mentioning the wrong play working out to such a wide audience is suggesting subliminally temptation for the wrong play.
