Let me introduce Peek & Play video poker to you, which I saw at the Red Rock yesterday. For an extra two coins bet per hand the player can peek at the next card in the deck. Here is an example.
Normally the correct play in the hand above would be to go for the four to an outside straight. However, the next card is destined to be the six of clubs. If you go for the straight -- you'll lose for sure. So, I held the six of spades only, to at least start with a low pair on the draw.
Here is what I got.
Typical pay table.
Rule screen.
As near as I can tell, this is exactly the same game as Look Ahead Poker, which I already analyzed.
The question for the poll is would you play Peek & Play, given the same return as conventional video poker?
Quote: IbeatyouracesBut isn't regular Look Ahead poker just 1 extra credit? And Super Look Ahead poker 2 extra credits?
No. Super Look Ahead costs an extra coin per hand, but the player can burn the next card if he doesn't want it.

Yeah, I knew in Super you can toss the look ahead card but thought that game was two extra credits, not one and regular Look Ahead was just one extra. Only place around here I've seen either of those is Firekeepers. I'll have to look at it again if and when I get there again.
Edit: looked over on the Odds site and I see it's 2 and 3 extra credits and not 1 and 2.
I'm considering bringing in this game and Barnyard in to my casino early next year.

I found there were far more times when the peek card hurt than helped, and it was very rare for a helper to be worth much. Playing this feels like I'm paying extra to get screwed.
If you are dealt 10D, JD, QD, KD, 7S and the peek card is a 2 of hearts you are SOL. TDB dealt aces without a kicker isn't going anywhere when the peek card is a nine and your 5th card is King. Even dealt 3 OAK gets hurt if the peek card doesn't help because it reduces the drawn cards from 2 to 1.
It wouldn't be so bad if the peek card would just go to one hand, but because it goes to 3 or 5 or 10 hands that one little card that doesn't help you can be rather costly.

That is probably why they created Super Look Ahead, where you can decline the peek card. Don't be surprised if we see a Super Peek & Play soon.

Obviously in this situation you dump everything and pray for many more 2's :-)

If I'm using JB's hand analyzer right, I hold one face card too.
And I think Wizard should have went for the flush draw since the peek card gave him one.

I'm surprised they didn't make it this way from the get go. But I like the regular version though, makes you think.

I also played it at videopoker.com, and I was doing very well holding 4 to the flush over the low pair, as trin mentioned. Definitely some other strategy changes, but I won money after 50 hands 7 of 8 times. KNOWING you were stuck with the peek card changed a lot of things, but overall did more good than harm IMO. One big thing was to drop the 2nd pair if you had JOB + any other and the peek card didn't help (because I play DDB). Got a lot of trips/FH, even a couple 4Oak.

wished casinos in md had these types of games (and royal hunt).
and yes, I would play this for the exact ev as the regular game, if it's 99%+ return. :)
i'll gladly pay the increased variance for more fun
