The Royal payout is at the max 10-coin.
everything else is just a multiple of whatever your coin-in is.
so HE is the same as the 5 coin-in version?
just higher variance?

Is the royal payout 8000?
Yes, if the pay table matches the one you expect (just scaled), the house edge should be the same.
May the cards fall in your favor.

If it's, say, a 50c game, there's no difference between it being a 10-coin 50c game and a 5-coin $1 game; as far as the machine is concerned, you put $5 in.Quote: 100xOddsThe Royal payout is at the max 10-coin.

For all intents and purposes, you're playing a 5-coin game at twice the denomination, but it lets you play half-credits.

They make them because people will play lower denomination at higher coins on worse paytables.
For example at my local people will play 20-coin in on quarters ($5 bet) with a paytable 2% worse than if they were just playing 5-coin in on dollars. They'll play 100-coin in on nickels ($5 bet) with a paytable about 5% worse than the same bet on dollars.

The usual reason I see more-than-fives is progressives. Progressive royal on 20 coin nickels starts at $800. Some people are eager to win that, "just playing nickels", not realizing they're effectively (almost) playing quarters.
Sometimes, the 800x royal kicks in at 5 coins. Sometimes, it bumps from 250 to 500 at 5 coins, with 800 reserved for max coin-in.
I see people hammering away at single line 20 coin nickel machines, going for that $867 royal, when 20 feet away there are 3 line nickel machines that their money will last a lot longer on.
