Ok, so I've pretty much mastered the simple strategy and am moving on to optimal strategy more out of boredom than anything else since the 0.05% extra return doesn't really concern me because I'll be playing at nickel denom (all they have for FPDW at Atlantis in Reno). That being said, why is a suited KQ, KJ or KT discarded sometimes but not other times if there is no straight or flush penalty card?

https://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/tables/deuces-wild/appendix/1/

Take the example in appendix 1. Why would the suited 47 impact the suited KQ since the suits are different? Has no impact on a potential RF, SF, FL or ST. I'm not seeing why KJ and KQ in most cases are discarded if there's a 3/4/6 or something close to that in the mix vs. KJ/KQ with say 678 or KT with 3/4/6.

I call them reverse penalty cards.

Theres another thread that talks about it.

its deck composition. Knowing certain card are gone or remaining affects the value of the cards you want to hold or toss.

Yeah I noticed a pattern after I saw W'AH' has a similar list of exceptions on when you should or shouldn't play it in the absence of penalty cards. Seems like it has to do with straight interference in relation to the ace since all of these reverse penalty cards are 3-7 and A2345 is a potential (albeit longshot) straight. Not sure why since holding the ace along with another card makes it impossible to pull a A2345 straight but eh as long as I at least see the pattern easy enough to follow. I just didn't want to memorize something without understanding it because it makes remembering much more difficult.

I don't even know why I care since most of the time I'm going to be playing DDB anyway. I think I just like FPDW the most, although that could just be the +EV talking since FPDW > DDB in that regard.
