That's whats going on in Reno these days. Run bad or so-so and they let you keep playing. Get into a good run and it's all over but the crying.
Quote: mickeycrimmReno just totally sux now. I just got word today that another couple got squashed at the Atlantis. They have a dollar 10/7 DB progressive there. The couple would usually hit the bank when the progressive got up to $5000. There was a little bit of cashback involved, like .15%. And through mailers they would get a little more cashback on their first $15,000 in action. So this time in he came off with the royal in about 10 minutes for $5049. They still had action to run on the $15,000 each. She came off with 4 Aces about an hour into it. Both jackpots were hand pays. So they were playing along after that and noticed they weren't getting points on the card anymore. They went to the booth and talked to a supervisor. They were told that their card priveleges had been pulled.

Are you sure the aces was a handpay?
I can't really get mad at a casino for not wanting to lose money. They go about it the wrong way but I can't fault their intentions.

I also heard that there were big changes at the Nugget when the new owners took over. Its hard to find a playable game in either Reno or Tahoe anymore and they wonder why the numbers are down every month and people stay in CA and play at the Indian resorts. They have done nothing to upgrade facilities there to even attract the non-sharps.

They jumped to the $2 denom, no progressive but they decided to run the action fast and go home.
Even before that there were double on 4oak on full pay machines. Even before that there was 9/6 jacks with 1% cash back.
Of course the casino can't give the house away, but machines seem to be going through a phase equivalent of 6-5 everywhere in Las Vegas until people stopped playing. Although 6-5 is prevalent everywhere now....
Quote: tongniI don't really understand this. These guys are advantage players, right? And the casino decided to stop letting them beat it, right? I always hear stuff like this and the implication is that what they are doing is indistinguishable from square play, so they must be backing off square players, but I've only a very few times seen a total square get penalized, and mostly through stuff like two dealt royals.
If the Atlantis doesn't want anyone to play with an advantage then they should take the dollar 10/7 DB progressive out. Or cut it to 9/7.
And there are times when innocent ploppies get caught up in the fray. No long ago the Peppermill pulled a guy's card benefits because he flopped a royal on a hundred play. The guy was playing a 98% game.

I have thought about that too. I have a pretty good 100 play game that is 100% normally and becomes positive on multi-point days and with promotions. I would love to be dealt the royal for $20k but I do wonder if I will lose the play after that.

Think about what you are saying.
"If the Atlantis doesn't want anyone to play with an advantage, they should reduce the blackjack penetration to 50% and make it H17."
That obviously makes it a worse experience for the players. Much better just to put a stop to people who are playing the best than lower the rules for all. You also don't say if the guy hitting the royal is a pro or not. I have played 98% and 97% games before. If not, that's the kind of move that hurts a casinos bottom line, not pulling cards from AP's.

They are only playing with an advantage because the Jackpot was over $5000. They did nothing illegal or against the casinos rules. They were not cheating. They just played at a high level based on the size of the jackpot. They cost the casino nothing. Like Mickey said, if the casino doesn't want a game to ever get over 100%, they reduce it to a lower payscale.

They just took away club benefits, I assume they can still play there. The customer is -EV for the casino with a player's club card and mail, so they took it away. Seems reasonable to me, the casino is trying to make money. Players that only play when the progressive is high do cost the casino money because each dollar won is a dollar that a square could not win, thus lowering the return to square players, effectively adding an additional slight increase in the hold percentage for them, reducing their experience.

I'm just spoiled rotten, I guess. I remember the good old days in Northern Nevada.
