my understanding is that New York state casinos are fake ones, with so called Video Lottery Terminals (VLT).
If that's the case, their "video poker" and "slots" are all fake, no difference.

The slots are the same youd see anywhere else from what I remember at resorts world. Wheel of fortune machines etc.

Also the roulette is a real table as is baccarat just mechanical

When I was at resorts world someone won 60k on slots to

Actually at Resorts World, until at least last year when I visited, the video poker required no skill. To test this, play a few hands of their 9/6 Jacks or Better and whenever get a high pair discard it. If you always get paid at least 1:1, then your hands' outcomes get determined when you press the deal button.

In NY non-tribal (NY State Lottery) casinos, like WA tribal casinos, slots and VP are played using a set of virtual scratch tickets rather than an RNG. Those games are not independent random events the way slots or VP in Nevada are. I understand there may be a movement afoot to change that behavior, but as of right now, VP isn't actually VP as you know it, where skill and strategy impact the final result.

Weird. Why would they allow rapid roulette but not real slots. Like I said. They have wheel of fortune, is it programmed differently?

video poker strategy? anyone?

There is no strategy for the machines at NY Lottery houses (Resorts World, Empire City, Saratoga, Finger Lakes, Monticello, Hamburg, Tioga Downs, Vernon Downs, or Batavia Downs) which resemble video poker, because they do not deal cards randomly like the real video poker machines in Vegas, Atlantic City, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, etc. See MathExtremist's post above.

i just read an article about resorts world

i see what you are saying

the slot machines are run by the NY lottery and the wins are predetermined like a scratchoff

but on the same token they are real slot machines, bit confusing.

the slot manager of resort world said in an article that the slots could be switched to random at the flip of a switch, so if thats true then they are real legitimate slots just waiting to go random as is the video poker?

Hasn't casino gaming been passed by voter approval in NY already? I believe it has but this doesn't mean all VLTs will become class III either, but it will open options to play.

VP games are strategic so using finite pool central determination actually changes the player experience. If you're supposed to win an award equivalent to four of a kind, but you throw away three of them, you'll win that award some other way. Slot games aren't strategic -- you just press the button and either win or lose -- so you can't tell the difference in gameplay between a finite pool central determination game and an internal RNG-driven game.

As an analogy, suppose we were playing "red card wins, black card loses" with 1000 decks of cards. Further suppose the cards are hidden in another room so you never know when the shuffle is happening, and that the same shoe is used to deal to every table in the casino (as a result, you can't count cards). What that means is you can't tell the difference between the game if it's played by shuffling all 1000 decks and dealing through them vs. shuffling the decks before every new card is drawn. To you, the odds of red card/black card always appears to be 50-50. There may be short-term discrepancies as a result of the distinction between "selection without replacement" and "selection with replacement" but you, as the player, can't detect them. This is the distinction between NY Lottery slots and Vegas RNG-driven slots, and the former example is almost exactly how centrally-determined pool games work in NY (and Washington).

Last time I went to resorts world I got some free play. I literally treated VP like a slot machine and pressed the button as fast as I possibly could.

I don't know how it is now. I'm highly likely to never go there again unless they get real poker or they give me more free play.

I might go then. I'd rather it become a casino/hotel that never closes though. 2 hours each way since I'm not a driver is horrible for me.

The talk is they don't want a full scale casino in the boroughs. Not sure if adding stuff to existing casinos would count.

I have no clue if this is possible, but in this day and age anything is possible. It would be good so the machines could be used in diffident jurisdictions or if the law is changed.

The most important thing is, quit asking employees anything regarding gambling, they usually have no clue what they are talking about. This is why they are casino employees.
