Let's say I walk into a casino and see numerous VP choices. The two best games seem to be 9/6 JOB and 8/5 BP. The BP game is progressive and the payout is around $4800. At what point will the BP be the better bet? Is there some sort of easy rule of thumb that can be used to help make the correct choice?

Look for the bank of games with a professional team occupying every seat and not getting up for any reason. That's the one with the edge.

A simple estimation is that a Royal is worth about 2%. So if you see a dollar 8/5 BP royal over $4800 it is better than the 9/6 JOB no progressive.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.
