Hey Guys,

I've never been heavy into video poker, but I wanted to try my hand at some full pay machines using the wizard's online guide for deuces:

https://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/strategy/deuces-wild/full-pay/optimal/

Couple of real quick questions:

1. for 0 through 2 deuces, are the lines with bold text the last lines that should ever be played, and the hands beneath those to be discarded?

3. For 3 deuces, is this the lowest hand that should be kept, and the ones beneath it to be discarded?

"deuces only, pair 10 or greater discarded (14.938946) This hand should never be played"

Thanks for clarification.
So I says to him, I said "Get your own monkey!"

1. Generally yes, but if there is a superscript next to the lower hand, the Wiz will explain the exception where the generally lower hold is superior.

2. Where did this go?

3. No, the lowest play is generally 2 deuces. But when you have a pair of cards that are "Broadway cards" (A,K,Q,J,T) with 3 Deuces to make 5 of a kind, it is better to hold 5 of a kind, because the two Broadway cards make making 2 of the Wild Royal Flushes impossible.

Also as a general note, full pay deuces wild (FPDW) is the only variant where one doesn't always hold 5 of a kind when it pays 75 credits with max bet. If you are playing "Not So Ugly Ducks" (NSUD) where 5 of a kind pays 80 with max bet, then you would always hold 5 of a kind. Any variant that pays 60 credits or less, you will just hold the 3 deuces vs. 5 of a kind.

To make strategies with any given paytable, JB's strategy calculator is excellent.

Also, just be aware, no FPDW is available on the Strip. The best deuces wild game you'll be able to find on the Strip is "Airport Deuces", named after the Airport's best former deuces game (it's terrible now). It pays back 98.91% longterm and requires some strategy changes. The NSUD strategy is closer to Airport Deuces. I often play this in Vegas a little bit though because it's the best game you'll find for nickels, or pennies (on a 50-play) on the Strip. These both exist at Casino Royale.

The nearest FPDW to the strip I am aware of is at the Palms. VPFree2 is a good resource listing the best video poker games at various casinos.
