Hello all. I am someone who plays VP occasionally, but not frequently. As such, I love the Wizard's Simple Strategy tables that he developed for Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild (thanks, Wizard!), and at this point I use them pretty much any time I play. At the places I have played, however, the Bonus Poker paytables are usually a little better than the JoB or DW tables. The optimal strategy for Bonus Poker does not appear terribly different from that of JoB. So my question is: what would be the expected return playing 8/5 Bonus Poker if one used the Wizard's Jacks or Better Simple Strategy? As a corollary, if one were to develop a Simple Strategy for BP, would there be any differences from the one for JoB?

Well, I would assume the costs of the Wizard's Simple Strategy would roughly be the same for Bonus Poker, which is about 0.08% error cost. Actually from a glance, it looks that the simple strategy for JoB works for Bonus Poker better when comparing it to detailed full-pay JoB and Bonus strategies.
But if you play frequently enough, I would try to fill in the gaps with a full-blown basic strategy. It's only double the options. The Wizard already has one handy for 8/5 Bonus.

If you play other paytables, you can use JB's strategy creator. It will tell you intricacies like breaking Aces full on badly paying 6/5 Bonus machines.

Like you, Bonus Poker is a better option for me in many locations I have played.

I'm not sure on the math of using the JoB strategy, but here is a link to the Wizards 8/5 BP strategy. You could manually compare the two.
