My wife and I took a bus trip to Mohegan Sun in CT this past week. It was a wonderfully warm day for late February, so it was nice to have a day off from work and have some fun.

The bus costs $30, however upon arrival you get a $15 food voucher, $10 free play and $15 free play. Using the $25 free play on BJ should get me about $12.50 so the bus really only costs about $2.50 (not bad). It was a bad day for free plays though, as I lost the $15 bet and won the $10 bet (of course getting a blackjack that will only pay off 1-1 on the free play). My wife lost both of her free bets :(

I played in the "Earth" casino in the morning at a $10 table. All the tables pay 3-2 with 6 deck shoes. It was an ok table, but one gentleman was playing the "match the dealer" and "super 4 progressive" on every hand. Often putting more on the match the dealer than on his BJ bet. As is "normal" for these "match the dealer" players they are always pointing out when you would have won the match or have a perfect match. Funny how they never point out all the times you would have lost! He had one big "M the D" win which kept him happy (and funded) for most of the morning.

I did find the progressive quite annoying. A couple of times he had suited cards and the dealer had an A or T up of the same suit. If the dealer has a BJ, then he would win $3000 (I believe). So now he is openly rooting for the dealer to have a BJ!!!! Really??? I'm not a fan of a side bet that causes people at the table to openly hope for the table to lose!

I ended the morning down just a bit. We headed to Tom's Urban for lunch. We each had a burger and garlic fries (very yummy) which was quite good. The food vouchers just about covered the meal though we did add some cash for the tip. All in all an enjoyable lunch.

Afterwards I headed to the Sky Casino for some more BJ. All the limits were now up to $15 but the tables were still packed. I ended up picking a pretty good table, with some fun and reasonable players and managed to grind out a slightly smaller win than my morning loss.

We ended up with about $30 in comps so we got some coffee and stopped at Carlo's bakery for some pastry to bring home. For a mid-week winter day I was surprised at how busy the casino was. Mohegan Sun also has some stadium seating live dealer games now. I didn't pay too much attention but it looked like you could choose BJ, Roulette or Baccarat from any of the terminals. Limits on BJ were 5 dollars. So for low rollers I guess that might be a good choice.
