You call them, I have a number somewhere, I may have actually already sent it to AOS a while ago, I can't remember if I actually sent it.Quote: RomesHow did I miss this thread?!?! Oh wait, I was on a 4 day binge of playing and not sleeping =D.
Ace, welcome back again, and a great trip report (as always). I'm glad to hear you're heading the right direction and that this was a nice solid win trip! I'm still trying to convince my partner to go the same week as you next month =P; a double trip report could be something fun. I don't want to get too overzealous though, I might still be a week or two after you.
What's this tournament/etc you're in coming up??
Axel - How does one go about getting a 'private' host?
I think AOS probably likes meeting and socializing with the casino hosts. Its obviously AOS is after the experience, not just the the money. Fancy rooms, dinners, limos etc. So he's probably getting over comped with stuff like that In lieu of Free play, table play etc. I think he would rather get $400 in comps to a nice restaurants over $200 in FP. I may consider taking 3 to 1 depending on the location. I always ask myself would I actually buy the comps at at 3 to 1? We actually have group dinners sometimes, it's worthwhile to take more in comps.
This guy will take a chance on consistent frequent mid level players. They usually don't like messing with people just who come once with 20k or whatever. If you're routinely bringing 10k and actually playing.

Don't read my posts as being intentionally demeaning toward you, they are not intended that way.

Although I am after the experience, socializing with hosts has never been my thing - there is only one host I socialize with and that is because we have become friends outside of the casino. Otherwise, any host I have had throughout my tenure as a casino patron has pretty much kept me at arm's length (of course, they will say hello to me and ask if I need anything, but no going out to clubs, dinners, etc.)
I like the idea of having RFB comped - however, when it comes to Vegas, it seems those offers are very limited for me. I can get the room comp and then given a number of "resort dollars" to spend (excluding the gift shop as those are "independently owned" or I do not qualify for such a comp). As for meals and such, those are always a "we will review your play upon checkout). Perhaps I am not being treated right by casinos but, I know they do not really covet black chip players anymore - it appears they want yellow chippers these days to get any real comps.
Am I wrong?

Hmmmm not sure what I'm doing wrong then

Perhaps "Winning!"... Nothings pulls back the welcome mat like a patron packing house money in their bags on the way home.
Welcome back AoS! I look forward to your trip reports and pictures. Was George Lopez performing there, or just enjoying the casino? How was his play?

"winning" -- from your lips!
As for George Lopez - he was there performing with The Comedy Get Down - met him in the hotel lobby so not sure of his playing style
I listened to GWAE with him on and he was saying downtown casinos will show you a lot of love for fronting $10k or so. Just giving the host a call to set up a RFB shouldn't take too much of his time, and they get paid when you gamble.
Quote: djatcIf you take WoN's advice and get a host make sure they get paid on your theo instead of actual losses. This way they are impartial to whether you win or lose, they just get a % of your action. I read the "Whales in the Desert" book and Steve Cyr is now an independent host that is able to shop casinos for the best deals for players, and he is compensated based on theo.

I've both read that book and heard the GWAE programs Cyr was on - I think he mainly deals with $1million dollar players - I don't think he would do anything for me - plus I like the Strip (downtown rules i.e GN all have he dealer hitting soft 17)
although I play black chips - I think casinos want at least a $25k credit line before they give RFB
Then do that.Quote: aceofspadesI've both read that book and heard the GWAE programs Cyr was on - I think he mainly deals with $1million dollar players - I don't think he would do anything for me - plus I like the Strip (downtown rules i.e GN all have he dealer hitting soft 17)

Just do something to make sure you don't go on tilt and make a bad decision.
Quote: beachbumbabsYour comps sound very "comparable" to my comps, except mine seem slightly better in some areas. Though nobody's ever sent me $5000 in freeplay, as they did for you last year. Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me, because I'm mostly a red-chip or table minimum player, though I play very long hours compared to you. I average 10 or so hours a day on a gambling trip, and when I'm someplace for some other reason and want a rating, I still give them 3-4 hours/day.
My impression on your past trip reports was that you're not putting in enough consistent time, but also you're working with people (mlife, fox/MS) who are not that generous with RFB. Having said that, I'm also seeing the value of my LV offers go down, though non-LV properties are holding well. You go to the high-profile joints, I go to the middle-tier properties; they may well comp better at lower tier and independent properties than at their top titles. Sands and mlife properties have almost nothing for me, but the others are decent with comps.
WHOA WHOA WHOA stop the presses - nobody gave me 5k in FSP -- I earned 1 spin on an MLIFE bonus wheel prize and 5k happened to come up - that was pure luck and unearned
well I was in Vegas in June this year but that was not a reported trip as I had had enough of the Bacc79 drama by then--in the three days I was at an MLIFE property on hat trip I earned ~100k tier points and became a Platinum cardholder -- I most certainly put in 3-5 hours per day $100min.
Once I hit Platinum my offers decreased - when I spoke with a host they informed me that in the past I had been "overcomped" and I was now going to be "undercomped" -- so I asked how could I have been "overcomped" if all I ever did was book the offers contained in my mailers and never had a host per se? They said "maybe the computer made an error"
UGHHHHH!
Quote: beachbumbabsI never understood where the 5K came from, so thanks for clearing that up. I've never had more than the most general understanding of the mlife comp system, but I've given them several shots at me with heavy Vegas play that would comp well in other systems, and they pretty much ignore me, except for offering to fly me into Beau Rivage several times a year. I think it must be geographic marketing, with them trying to take you to Vegas and me (in Florida) being pushed to Biloxi, but I'm not interested in driving 3 hours, waiting 90 minutes to get wheels-up, flying for 90 minutes, offloading and driving another hour to the property. In another hour or so, I could have driven myself there and had a car to work with on-site. Or I can take their invitation-only Motorcoach, which adds 3-4 hours to the drive (I GO, bay-bee). Bleah either way.
I don't know if you've done anything with the Cosmopolitan, but they started out very well with me. Their property and amenities stack up well against any mlife property, better than most. OTOH, I read somewhere (hmmm, where was it? lol) that they've stopped rating your table play. Haven't confirmed that for myself.
that seems like something out of Planes, Trains and Automobiles just to get to the darn casino - no thanks - I agree with you - might as well go where the hell you want to go at that point regardless of comps
I had two hosts contact me from the Cosmo -- one said she couldn't give determine my comps until Checkout and he other guy was going to give me a shot for two nights but the timing was off (but, I might take him up on that in the future)
*BBB I started a new thread about the comps - can you copy/paste your comps portion therein? thanks BBB and maybe we can all get to the bottom of this
