Quote: aceofspadesWhat did I do to deserve this karmic retribution?
The bitch about karma is it may not even have been in this life, so it's hard to tell.
I was convinced for my first thirty years that I must have really screwed somebody in a past life.
You know what they say, unlucky at cards, lucky at love,,oh wait.
Come on Ace, you are just "taking one for the team". It could be worse, it could be my turn again.
I think maybe craps may be your game, belly up to the table, there is plenty of room for guys like us.
I have heard if you take a couple of dice influencing classes, the world is your oyster?
Sat down and played back and forth for a shoe then lost 10
Hands in a row
Switched tables lost 7 of 9
Shuffled
Won the first 6
Then lost
Trip is -6.5 with 2.5 available to play--if that goes, Ace will retire except for the big BJ tourn
BTW Ace, have you ever considered playing Spanish 21? Lower house edge, more exciting game, better comps.
Quote: petroglyphThe bitch about karma is it may not even have been in this life, so it's hard to tell.
Karma is krap. Not a shred of evidence it
exists, it's superstitious nonsense. Ace's
losing streak is well within the bounds of
BJ probability, that's all that's going on.
The math for poker says you can theoretically
go a lifetime and never have a winning session.
It never happens, but it could. Most players
have no idea how potentially volatile the games
they're playing are.
I am going to see what happens after dinner and, as previously stated, going to attempt retirement if I cannot get some of this week's losses back. It is becoming a chore rather than something that used to be fun for me
I think back to my mom being a smoker up until about 5 years ago and all the money she spent on cigarettes during my lifetime and I wonder if I've reached that level of expense with my vide yet...? I guess those numbers would have to be adjusted to today's dollars but, in my lifetime, from 1972 onwards, she smoked a pack a day for 35 years or so...if I was good at match I could figure it out in today's dollars lol anyone?

Bob - you should be loving all my losing - it's a free ride on the non-stop schadenfreude express
Quote: PerditionMight be time to start scheduling Dog-cations where you stay at home and feed your dog steaks. You won't get the "thrill" of the tables but you will have a happy dog and that is better.
I would love a dog-steak, do I have to travel to Korea to enjoy this delicacy?
Quote: aceofspadesBob - you should be loving all my losing - it's a free ride on the non-stop schadenfreude express
All losing is no fun for anybody. There
has to be winning sessions too or it's
just pointless.
Quote: aceofspadesWhat did I do to deserve this karmic retribution?
To put this in perspective you may have a small sample size. Any idea how many hours of play are involved with the negative variance? Losing streaks can last for months and can be a few hundred hours. Anything can happen in the short term. If they've granted you the surrender option, you are playing against a house edge of about 0.35%. The math says that with perfect basic strategy you should lose 35 cents for every $100 wagered. I know none of this takes the sting out but perhaps it will give you some hope for the future.
I said basic strategy but you're doing a little more. With what you are doing you should be at close to break even or slightly above. With the proper spread even better.
Quote: RSOoooh, dog steaks! Didn't know you were in the business, Ace. Can you hook me up with some dog steaks?
How about a milk steak...?

Remember this one, Ace?
After seeing a hand like that, how would the odds look if we had a new blackjack game that automatically gave you a winner if you drew 5 cards or more without going over 21???
Quote: jeffwarren75The odds of the things you hit are just staggering frontage dealer to get 20. 15 out of 20 hands is really not a statistical possibility
Here we go again --- how is anything an impossibility in this universe and the infinite parallel universes?
It happened, subpoena the surveillance footage and see for yourself. I have zero reason to lie -- and no, I am not misremembering
I see the mathletes are waking up now and about to turn this into a "bash Ace" thread

Next time it happens, stand up and
yell 'that's a mathematical impossibility!'

I just literally laughed out loud!!! Thank you Bob

No I just came to liquidate my comp account, pick up a gift card and match play. I have no interest in playing at GNAC anymore.

Wishing you positive variance wherever you play my friend

I hope you're no including me as a math guy. I know the word math was in my post. I trust the real math folks. As far as my math goes, when I run out of fingers and toes I'm toast. :-)
Quote: djatcI would love a dog-steak, do I have to travel to Korea to enjoy this delicacy?
From my experience, most Korean BBQ joints are within walking distance of a vet. I do not believe this to be an accident

Nope - not including you - I know you are Pro-Ace

Are you sure you want Pro-Ace and Pro-Math to be non-overlapping?

All the way my friend, all the way!
Quote: speedycrapAOS, you need change of scenario. Like playing craps for a few minutes so you can refresh your mind. Spare say $500 and go to a crap table. Put $440 inside and stay for a few minutes. Then you go to to your beloved BJ.
What would a change of location do? Cards are cards.

It's all one big shoe but maybe vibe and perspective

Start drawing the Venn diagram! Mach schnell!

How about playing stacks of green at a quarter table for the same amounts? There's a meaningful tactile difference between playing with 1-5 chips and 4-20.
Amazing
People at the table got mad I left mid shoe (dealer pulled a blackjack the first hand after I left so they all gave me dirty looks)
Trip once again -5.5

Do we know who the gentleman is?
I wished an older guy wearing a U.S. NAVY hat a happy memorial data Dan thanked him for his service
He was with a woman that looked about half his age and he told me he didn't re-up for Vietnam as his wife just had their first child - so I turned to the woman and said "you must be that child" - the guy laughed and said "no, that's my granddaughter" so I then remarked to her that "she should be proud of her grandfather" - she laughed and then he said "that may be somebody's granddaughter but she's not mine"
YIKES! Don't know what got lost in translation but I eventually read it loud and clear lol

A right click on the picture (in Chrome) let's us "Search Google for this image." I learned that he's Joseph Ducreux, who painted that self portrait.
Trip -5.5 again
Lost the next 6 hands
Yup the first 20 hands of a shoe until I finally PUSHED a hand
Yes I kept track because the PB and dealer also had wide eyes and could not believe it
This is the story of my life
