Not likely.

A hunter hunts for food to eat; once the quarry is bagged, the hunt is over.

A gambler gambles to scratch an itch which can never be soothed.

Can there ever be enough action for a hard core gambler?

I hope I'm not out of line but I have to ask since you've mentioned it at least four times. Is there a story brewing here? I hope I'm reading this right in thinking that you want to be asked about this. Is this something you'd like to share? Did you have a scare or a near miss?

Ace, you are one of our most interesting posters. You could write about paint drying and make it fun. What say you on this subject?

It's funny you bring this up. I've heard Ace mention that he's celibate a few times and just today I was wondering what the story is too. If he wishes not to share that's completely his call. But a young healthy guy with libido, I don't get it.

Now that I think of it, I recall Ace making some statements some months back about not feeling desirable. He's put out some hints.

Ace, you're smart, clever, good job. And you eat food that I can't even pronounce. You've got some great qualities!

I hope at some point you get back in the game.

Actually just because someone's young and healthy doesn't mean they can't have no libido. Just like how some people are gay, or into bestiality, some people just aren't into sex at all.

I remarked that not hitting the soft 18 was something I never do and it was like an out of body experience and I don't know why my hand waved over the cards rather than hitting-- I cannot explain it

As for the 7,7 - I did split (but as I was typing it out I got a phone call and when I got back to typing it inadvertently left out the split)

Well then hopefully next time you do it you'll has some profound revelations, see some white light vortex that draws you in, but then you hear this voice that tells you that you're not ready to shuffle off this mortal coil. You have not yet fulfilled your purpose.

That way you'll have a spiritual experience to compensate you if you should lose the hand.

Yes, and you have to time your A.C. forays correctly: this bloody "card flow" only happens once a month, lasts for only a few days, and typically ceases about the time players first get contacted by AARP.

Ace, congrats on the good trip! I'm seriously glad it went well. Sounds like it got bumpy but you kept your composure and played on through like a champ. Well done sir, well done.

Next, I understand I don't see "all the cards", etc, but I'm a little concerned with some of what you posted... Perhaps this is because speed count ignores 'big' cards? I don't know... but here's what I see from a couple of your posts:
Quote: aceofspades

Started shoe as follows:

BJ
BJ
press to 300 - split 8,8 lose
BJ
BJ
Press to 400 lose
...

Okay, so what I see here is: -2, -4, -6, -8... press to 400... If you're playing 6D, then you just pressed your bet 4x in a TC < -1. If this happens with any kind of frequency, you're really putting your money in a bad spot and jacking up the House Edge you're playing against =/.

Quote: aceofspades

...
1st hand pushed 20
2nd hand pushed 20
Third hand got a blackjack
Pressed up 250 and won the hand
Lost the 5th and 6th hands
Won the 7th
Pressed to 300 and won with a 7,7 v dealer 2 (he busted)...

Again, I see: -2, -4, -6, press to 250 in TC -1... My partner, long before he started counting, at least did the old "I saw a bunch of big cards, so I'm not going to bet high" or "I saw a bunch of small cards, why not press now." In a double deck game (I know you've played them in Vegas at least) I would think this could be enough to get a small edge rather than using speed count.

I hope you know me 'enough' to know anything I post about your play is to help. I'm NOT trying to get you to switch, count, etc... I'm not. That ship is in the dock whenever you want it with me offering to personally tutor you... All I'm trying to do here is show you how some of these situations seem to be rather poor when you're upping your bets. Thus, you might think you're getting horrifically unlucky, but really you're playing in to a bigger house advantage sometimes =/.

Again, I didn't see all the cards on the round, don't know if you're playing heads up, etc... This is just from what I see/you post, and all I'm doing is trying to give you a different view on the situation, hopefully. I'm glad your trip went well, always love your TR's, and look forward to the next!

See, Ace? It does pay to have a goal. I
get pounced on every time I say that, but
dollars to donuts the tide would have
turned and you would have lost your
winnings in no time. You deserve congrats
for leaving when you said you would, that's
the real accomplishment here. Having win
goals and stop losses are a huge tool to use
against the casino.

No, you get pounced on because you have no way to mathematically prove he would have lost anything. The best you could do is run the number of hands, average bet, and get a standard deviation only to find he's almost exactly as likely to make another $3k as lose the $3k back.

Agreed 100%. You stuck to your word, and that's not always something that's easy to do when gambling. It takes a man with strong conviction to stick to it, and congrats are definitely within order.

If you're not an AP, absolutely. If you are an AP, this couldn't be further from the truth. So long as you're playing a winning game, the goal of each trip isn't actually money (although that's the overall goal)... it's hours/hands. If you're playing, blackjack correctly and you have an AP game, then you know what your EV per hour is. You also know the more hours you play the less variance comes in to effect and the more accurately you'll reach your EV, and "winnings." Having a stop loss cuts your hours short. Your bankroll doesn't care if you stop today and start again next week... To your bankroll, you're just playing your next hand, regardless of whatever day it is.

If you have problems controlling your limits a stop loss can help a lot, but again, this is for someone who's not an AP.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

No way to mathematically predict the exact time
it will rain either, do you laugh at people who
carry umbrellas just in case? Being prepared is
90% of life, including gambling. It's one of the
few things where people throw caution and good
judgement to the winds and then wonder later
what the hell happened.

Couldn't agree more. I'm prepared in the fact that I did the math, I know I have a winning game, what each of my EV/hour is per game I play. Thus, being prepared, I know I need to put in the hours and get the hands to reach my EV, regardless of any 1 days variance. Setting a stop loss would hinder me from my real goal, the long run. Any true AP should not have stop losses or win goals. Amateurs however, should.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

i don't know what type of EV you gain or lose but I'm assuming playing how you do the comps more then make up for the expected loss. in that case hammer out as much hands as you can. always hit your soft 18 vs 10 tho.

BTW were you still selling that free play?

I get some very nice comps - especially in Vegas
And yes I know all about hitting the soft 18 and always do so except when something "paranormal" happens lol

Ace, instruct the dealer in advance that if you get a soft 18 and he/she has a 10 up-card that you want to hit, even if you wave off. (But don't use the term he/she when you say it. Be specific)
