I am always curious. How many cards does a dealer cut from 6 decks in a regular Blackjack game before dealing? What did you see? Do they all cut about the same amount: 1 deck +, 1.5 decks, 2 decks or more? Why? Does it matter to the game? Was this how the dealers were trained? Does the number impact the math, or the drop, or the hold?

It impacts the ability for counters to ply their trade. Fewer decks cut = higher penetration, and higher penetration = greater likelihood of a favorable deck.

In my experience, 1.5 decks is the norm. Penetration has been getting a little better in the last year.

Next time you're playing, look at the side of the shoe as he's inserting the cut card. There's a little plastic guide for him. But there usually are several slots in the guide, for several different penetrations.
I suppose the slot used depends on the rules and minimums for that table, but sometimes I think it's based upon whether or not he got laid the previous night.
