I already know the wizard will consider this a sucker bet but I was just wondering what others think of it. I just started dabbling with Miss Stud and at Buffalo Creek they have a side bet for the 3 community cards. Payouts are similar to the 'pair plus' bets in 3 card poker.
Stud from what I have found is lots of folding but the community cards will pair and it pays 3 card straights and flushes also. I was lucky and caught a few sets so I did pretty good. At least stretched out my entertainment until I bonked. Any thoughts for me ???

The dealer and other players will always notice when you could've won if you didn't make the side bets.

They never keep track of how much more you lose when they don't hit, though....

Why should I care what the dealer and other players notice? My money and I'll play how I want to. I'll stick with not taking sucker bets for a while. Thats probably what the Schackle Wizard recommends...

It’s not that they ‘notice’ but will point it out to the point of berating you for not making the bet. It’s why I don’t play BJ anymore. Tired of the bullshit.
Back to the original question, what’s the payouts of this bet? Only then can we tell you how similar, better, or (most likely) worse than Pair Plus it truly is.

Play whatever you want. Like you said, it's your money.
Personally, the MS Stud base game is plenty volatile for me, without having to bet a side bet in addition. I'd imagine that the Pairs Plus return is lower than the base game. Did you happen to notice the paytable?

If there's no Royal Flush for nearly a year, you'll be behind up to that much by the time you don't win it.
I'd just play for Quads at this point.

I'll not the pay table next time I go and post it. But its pretty much the same as three card poker 'pair plus' if I recall...

If there’s a side bet that:
(1) is completely independent of anything I do (eg bet resolves on first two cards in BJ) and
(2) Someone comments on me not betting it and
(3) the person is otherwise pleasant
Then I’ll offer to let them make the bet on my spot. If they win, I’ve had people toss me some $5 chips or add to my base bet. And if it loses, no skin off my back. In either case, they stop criticizing me for not betting it.

If anyone gives you 10,000 to 1 on anything, you take it. If John Mellencamp ever wins an Oscar, I am going to be a very rich dude.

From my notes, playing 2,000 hands of MS Stud equals an HA of 1 quads win.
