Curious, how others got into advantage playing.
The mob was running these quasi-legal Las Vegas Nights, and if you got on the mailing list, you would get invites you could trade in for chips. We'd do a dooey don't with the promo chips, cash out the real chips, and head out to the next place. It was nice, but my friend told another friend who told a friend, and soon there were a dozen guys scamming them. It didn't take long for them to catch on and tell us we were not welcome.

Sounds like you lived in Vegas most of your life. I would enjoy living there.
Even without heat it’s a long arduous grind before you can be reasonably confident of realizing a 1% edge.
Quote: Ace2This site discouraged me from ever trying to AP blackjack. Everything I read says the time for AP ended decades ago and it’s essentially impossible to escape the heat in the current era
I just play 100% basic strategy for fun. I dont count cards. Doesnt it seem most casinos by going to 8 deck games, cutting off at leats one of the 8 decks, etc...make card counting near impossible? Do you have to find a single or double deck game to be a true AP?

It is a grind. However, if you can get to the point where you have a 1% edge and the bankroll to bet $100 a hand, the rewards can add up quickly.

No. The fewer decks the better, but some eight-deck games are okay.
In the before times, I would visit a casino for just a few hours, every couple weeks, plus just one or two multiple day Vegas trips. Most of that time is spent in poker room or at the craps table.
On the other hand, on the occasional times I play blackjack, if I hear anyone make a comment about 'playing by the book', I say that I'm friends with the author. THAT tends to be a conversation starter. 🤪
Actully, It's really not.Quote: DJTeddyBearAlthough I'm in the top 10 of posters here, and this forum is a magnet for advantage players
HOW DID YOU GET INTO ADVANTAGE PLAYING.Quote: Wellbushmy recent reintro (first intro was the initial establishment of a casino in my city in australia, about 1985), I think, was a documentary on the MIT team, and a news article on Don Johnson. Then got thinking. Then started tinkering online. One thing leads to the next
You Advantage Play? I find that a little hard to swallow after reading some of your posts. I guess you could be just trolling people.
