I've been writing about and helping design new casino games for 20 years now. One idea that keeps coming up over and over is a simplified version of craps. The idea has crashed and burned 100% of the time it has been put to the test. However, maybe things will be different in the southern hemisphere.

Snake eyes takes out all the stable craps bets and leaves the player with only the sucker bets. Of course, they would probably sell it as taking out all the complicated bets and leaving only the easy ones to understand.

With the introduction out of the way, please have a look at my new page on Snake Eyes. As always, I welcome all questions, comments, and especially corrections.

The question for the poll is would you play Snake Eyes?

This is one of those games that I would play for a $1 or $2 minimum for about 20-30 minutes.

So the field bet at 5% is the 'best' bet in the game? All the others are around 18-20% HE?

...I've got an idea for a game as well. Everyone just give me $100 and every now and then I'll give someone $500, whenever I feel like it. The game will be called Non-Consensual Action. Come take a chance at winning big!
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

Actually, it gets as bad as 22%, on the hard 4 and hard 10 bets. The usual American 7 to 1 odds, for a house edge of 11.1%, were too generous so they lowered them to 6.

Typo in the rules section :

Field — This single-roll bet pays 3-1 on a total of 12 2, 1-1 on totals of 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, and 12, and loses on all others.

A couple typos from the rules.
Quote:

...
12 — This single-roll bet pays 30-1 on a total of 2 and loses on all others.

Field: That first 12 in the field should be 2.
12: Shows it paying on a 2. Should be 12.
You totally missed the Any 7.

Ignoring the horrendous edge, I have issues with the general design.

It is trying to be a simplified version of craps rather than being a simple dice game.

It uses the term ‘craps’. Why? This game is NOT craps. Don’t confuse things by using that name as a bet option - particularly when you put 11 in that group! And then further confuse things by having a C+E bet? WTF???

I have other issues with this game. And it’s making me think about a really good simplified dice game.

I’ll submit a write up in a day or two…

Just nail 18 Yo's in a row and the problem solves itself.

EDITED TO ADD: Only problem is nobody would be betting it.

As long as the games are almost the same, I threw together a quick page on Props and Hops. I welcome all comments and corrections.

It literally got zero play. I don’t know that the drop covered the cost of the felt, it was installed 100 percent as a favor to the dealer

That's how many field trial games get their first install.

Happened to be in Auckland earlier this week. Knew the casino didn't have craps, but decided to check it out and lose a few bucks at blackjack while my wife shopped. Was caught by surprise when I saw a mini craps table. The table was no more than half the size of a regular craps table. There was one very lonely looking dealer/stickman and no players. I looked at the felt and realized it wasn't craps. Obviously I didn't play. Over the course of the next hour, a player or two would show up from time to time for three or four rolls, then leave. I'd say there was no action 95% of the time. It seemed like most of the table game players in the casino were Asian and most were playing either games targeted at them or roulette. Maybe it was the wrong crowd, but my guess is that the table will be gone soon.

BTW, the $5 craps table ($3 US) has something called Blackjack Plus (I think). Dealer hits on hard/soft 16, even odds on blackjack and all winning hands are a push if the dealer has 22. Haven't looked for the odds, but I'm guessing that moves things significantly in the direction of the house. Then again, there's no tipping in NZ casinos (or restaurants or hotels or anyplace else). They have strict minimum wage laws so service workers get a livable wage and don't expect tips. It's allowed in other places so of course the wait staff, cab drivers and bellmen appreciate it when given a couple of dollars. But the casinos post that tipping is not allowed.

Thanks for the report. Not surprised the game was standing dead most of the time. I wrote a page on Blackjack Plus after seeing it at a casino in Queenstown, NZ.

Another typo:

"Hard 10 — This multi-roll bet pays 6-1 if a hard* 4 is rolled before an easy** 10 or total of 7."

The 4 should be a 10.
