I read another article that said he made a bunch of other bets on that same spin. The $35,000 was straight up, and he made several other split bets that also paid off.
EDIT: Actually I'm not sure if all of his bets total were $35,000, or just the straight up number. But he made multiple bets.

If he never gambles a day in his life again, he'll accomplish more than the vast majority of AP's. Think all that time studying, learning, practicing, and playing is worth it? Makes you wonder =P.
Playing it correctly means you've already won.

In the video, which I had seen on facebook a while ago, you can see that they placed wagers on many of the possible possible spots that surrounded the number as well (or at least the double number adjacent wagers). I think it was 9 (or 5) total bets combined.
I had also heard it was 100,000 straight up which would make more sense... But who knows.

When I asked a couple roulette dealers in Vegas high-limit rooms about this back in February, they seemed incredulous at the idea of any casino taking that bet.
Casinos are not your friends, they want your money. But so does Disneyland.
And there is no chance in hell that you will go to Disneyland and come back with more money than you went with.
