I was strolling by the three card poker/Mississippi/LIR type games, and noticed a progressive jackpot side bet that players were betting on. It uses 5/5 cards (two community cards are held to the side in 3CP) and pays according to a paytable.
I found the paytable (below) online at a different casino.
However, I have looked at multiple casino websites offering this, and this is a $1 side bet everywhere I saw. At new Rivers, it is $5. Of course, it pays odds rather than a fixed amount, but if I did my math correctly this is a >40% House edge bet, which makes me think they are screwing up. The JP was about 60k when I looked. This could be an innocent mistake so far. I would like to get input, especially if I should talk to a pit boss...
Royal Flush 100% JP (Envy of 1,000to1)
Straight Flush 10% JP (Envy of 300to1)
Four of a Kind 300to1
Full House 50to1
Flush 40to1
Straight 30to1
Three of a Kind 9to1
Quote: RSHaven't done the math on it, I'll take your word for it. But what about the meter movement? The meter could be very high, which would make up for (some of) the 40% HE.
Have not done math either and have no clue about meter move but I will say they have the same thing at Rivers pittsburgh and the meter moves so fast that you can not see the dollars move, it just jumps. Often times it gets very high compared to the starting.

Thanks, it was only ~60-70k when I looked, and I checked another casino's site that had the current jackpot posted and it was comparable ($1 bets).
I think this math is right, assuming a 100k jackpot, and ignoring the envy which I doubt makes a huge difference. And actually, I'm assuming a "to one" payout here; I didn't actually take good notice of whether the $5 chips were collected. It was those circles that light up when a chip is on there, which is another reason I believe it should be $1.
(20000*0.000002)+(2000*0.000014)+(300*0.000240)+(50*0.001441)+(40*0.001965)+(30*0.003925)+(9*0.021128)+(-1*0.9712854) = -0.373

Quote: Deucekies$5 progressives are becoming more and more popular. They're all over the place in Vegas, being used on just about every game except Pai Gow. Up here in WA, I've seen one cardroom that collects $5 progressives on Pai Gow even.
Thanks. I am over this now. I think there is another mistake in Asian poker, in which they argue a joker may not be used in fortune side bet hands (the paytable is slightly different than pai gow fortune, the one on wizards site, but very similar)
Quote: DeucekiesNot to hijack your thread, but I was quite annoyed last time I played UTH at New York New York. Not only is the progressive jackpot a $5 wager, but you must flop any hand to win on. Rivering a full house, for example, pays nothing.
Where is UTH in NY?

I think he means the Vegas casino New York New York. It's an MGM property.
