Earlier this week I made an enjoyable trip to The Empire in London for Pai Gow Tiles and noticed more details about their progressives. With thanks to the manager who provided me with a copy of their paytables.

In essence they keep 30%, pay 15% of each day's take into the jackpot pool and claim 55% is paid for the prizes. Ignoring the effect of simultaneous Jackpots out of interest I tried to work out the values and got a different HE. I can't remember the exact value, but suspect the jackpot started at £15k and hadn't gone up very much.

Can anyone see where I might have gone wrong? Many thanks.

Hi, Charlie!

I agree with the incidence of Six card SF with a single deck at 36, but the Wizard's chart in 6 card stud for the occurrence of the rest of the hands is different. Perhaps if you plugged in his numbers to your chart, just to see, you'd get the house odds Empire is quoting? I get that a certain incidence of hands rise to the six-card level in your calc (ie 4 royals that include the 9), but perhaps what Empire published does not?
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Hi

Many thanks for looking into it and also for another reference: I only found the figures under the 3-card section https://wizardofodds.com/games/three-card-poker/ (which agree with yours, as Trips or lower are non-winners for Empire's Jackpot bet).

The top two figures don't agree as 4 of the Royal Flushes are 6-card Straight Flush (i.e. AKQJT9 or each suit).
Similarly eight ranks of the other Straight Flushes (KQJT9..65432) have an associated 6-card by adding a lower card (KQJT98..65432A) - allowing for each of four suits and the eight ranks, this produces 32.

Thus the figures for Royal Flush is 188-4 = 184; and the figures for Straight Flush is 1656-32 = 1624.
btw I agree that it looks as if the Empire have missed off the 6-card Royal Flush as 32 corresponds with their "1 in" figure, but this has little effect (about .3%) on the HE.
