I arrived at my local Indian casino and bought in with $160, planning on a short session playing the don't. At the other end of the table there's a delay while box, stick, and dealer try to sort out one player's action before the next come out roll. I notice a pile of green chips on the field. Point is five. Green chips are gone. The same guy who just lost a wad on the field is throwing in six $100 bills with action on the next roll. $500 on the field (the table limit) and $100 Big Red. Next roll is another five. I lose my DP. The same person tosses in another $600, same action, another five. Before the next roll, another $500 on the field ... and the last $65 in the dude's pocket on Any Seven. Another roll - not a field roll, not a seven. In four rolls of the dice this guy has lost almost $2400. Yikes. I have no idea how long this had been going on, but I did notice that he headed for the ATM which apparently denied him further funds. (I hope he hit his daily ATM limit and had not tapped out his bank account!!) He returned to the table to discover that his hard six had hit while he was gone. His last bet with those winnings was yet another (losing) Big Red.
I know that $2400 is not Really Big Money for some high rollers. Even I've lost more than that over a three day Vegas trip. But four rolls of the dice -- less than 2 minutes!! And making the worst bets on the table!! (Not that it matters much, but the field only pays 2X on the 2 and 12.) What always gets me is when people are making single bets that are multiples of my entire bank roll. When they make the worst bets on the table, I just shake my head, wondering what they are thinking.
Oh, yeah, I ended up winning $40 which goes into my fund for my next trip to Vegas. :-)

I guess such folks crave the big hit. I no longer suspect much that they just don't know the bets are sucker bets.
the next time Dame Fortune toys with your heart, your soul and your wallet, raise your glass and praise her thus: Thanks for nothing, you cold-hearted, evil, damnable, nefarious, low-life, malicious monster from Hell! She is, after all, stone deaf. ... Arnold Snyder

Wow.
It makes me wonder four things:
1 - How stupid is the guy
2 - Was the guy tipping the crew
3 - How much did the crew dislike the guy
4 - Does the casino offer the Hop Seven bet
Reason I ask is a few months ago I was at a table where a guy hit two sevens in a row, so I threw a buck on Any 7. It hit. I pressed it to $2. It hit again.
Then I pressed that Any 7 to $3. The stick moved it from the Any 7 rectangle to the Any 7 graphic, and laid the chips in a stacked/side by side manner. I asked what that meant, and he said it's the hop sevens, which would pay me an extra buck if it hit.
Now maybe he did that because he was a nice guy. Or maybe it was because even though I'm a low roller, I threw a few tips and dealer bets out that paid off. And maybe I'd then tip the buck if it hit again. Bottom line: he did me a favor.
But I'm thinking the guy that lost $2400 in four rolls sounds like the kind of jerk that the dealers aren't going to do any favors for. So if he ain't smart enough to hop the seven, it ain't getting hopped!

Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

1 - Your guess is as good as mine.
2 - No tipping that I noticed. I would guess not, but he was there before me and at the other end of the table, so it's possible.
3 - I don't think they had time to like / dislike him. They did hold onto his winning hardway, but then they really don't have a choice about that.
4 - Yes - Hop Seven is available, and there were no offers to move it.
