So I’m looking to learn a new simple game, which I can eat up a lot of time with but not lose a ton of money. I have a friend who likes to play it "let it ride" for just those reasons. I figured if I applied the wizard’s strategy I would end up with a bit more volatility, but hopefully better results.

In reviewing the wizards Strategy I noticed he says
With four cards you should only "let it ride" if you have:

Any paying hand (tens or better, two pair, three of a kind)
Any four to a royal flush
Any four to a straight flush
Any four to a flush
Any four to an outside straight with at least one high card
Any four to an outside straight with no high cards (zero house edge)
Any four to an inside straight with 4 high cards (zero house edge)

Couldn’t that be simplified to just say:
Any paying hand (tens or better, two pair, three of a kind)
Any four to a flush
Any four to an outside straight
Any four to an inside straight with 4 high cards (zero house edge)

It seems to me he is saying that you should "let it ride" with for cards any time you have 4 to a flush and any outside straight. Am I reading that right? Maybe he just included the extra lines for clarity.

Trust me, if I wrote that people would write to me claiming I made an error because I omitted 4 to a straight flush and 4 to a royal flush. Nothing is ever obvious for some people, and they write to me all the time with their error reports.

If I just had "Any four to an outside straight" people would write and say that if there were no high cards it would be a breakeven play. I would not blame them for that comment, since some players like volatility and some don't, so the breakeven cases merit special mention.

in addition to what the Wizard has said, a longer strategy looks more professional than a shorter one. lol
