Where on the strip do they not charge a commission on the 4/10 unless you win? Or is this something that's very uncommon, and only available at some very advantageous casinos?

I am fairly certain that most all of the strip casinos only charge the 4/10 Buy vig on the win. At least I am sure that holds true for the Harrah's properties.
In AC they charge you up front for ALL buy bets, which explains why I have not been back to AC since 1997. That and the fact the casino dealers/Pit attitudes SUCK there. I would rather never play dice again, then put any of my money in play there.

Tunica and Biloxi, MS is the place to go, IMHO for the best craps games. Tunica is nowhere near the glitz of Vegas, but where else is? However, 3x on field 12, Vig on win on the 4/5/9/10 (to give you an idea of the 5/9 affect, $30 Buy five pays you $44, instead of 42, so a 'free' $2. It adds up over time.), and odds vary from 10x up to 100x. $5 tables can be found, but most are $10. Biloxi has some nicer places than Tunica, but both locations have 4 or 5 choices of where to play.
On the down side, with no place or buy bet worse than 2%, it encourages me to put money all the way across, which means more money in play when a cold table bites you.

Does anyone know if any off strip casinos in Vegas offer any tables with the 5/9 buy vig on win?

It does get better! Tunica has many crapless games where the buys start at the $10 level and most houses can be pushed to $35 for only a $1 vig. That means a 2 or 12 bought for $35 pays $209 after the vig is taken. The 3 or 11 would pay $104 for the same bet. This makes these bets the best in all of craps. The linebet is a bad bet in crapless however and should be avoided.

Beau Rivage in Biloxi has become the scrooge to end all scrooges. Here is what they do: First of all buys start at $20. The vig is win only on the 4,5,9 and 10. The vig is however UPFRONT for the 2,3,11 and 12!! To add insult to injury, say you buy the extremes for $25@. The upfront vig will not be $4 as in $1 for each bet, noooooooo it will be $5 for 5% of the total bet. If that is not the definition of a scumbag company (MGM) I don't know what is. This is what no competition will do as it's now the only crapless in Biloxi. (Boomtown recovered as regular craps, Gulfport Grand wiped out with Katrina)

Since you haven't been there in 13 years, I just have to stand up for the vast majority of Craps dealers in AC. I can't tell you the last time I went to Atlantic City and had a "bad" experience with the dealers. Maybe five or six years ago, maybe...and I play at various properties there at least 2x a month. You are absolutely entitled you your opinion and that stinks that when you were there they were bad, which I can't deny, but I wouldn't be going back every few weeks if they had bad attitudes. The PLAYERS are hit or miss, but the dealers and crew have almost always been great to me.

The Field and Buy bets are lame though. For my style, they make up for it with 5x odds everywhere and 10x at Ballys. 3-4-5x to me is lame, because I'm used to 5x.

Thanks cclub for your post. You are correct that maybe I am not being fair after 13 years, so I am glad you weighed in with your positive experiences. And the fact you go back on a regular basis says volumes I guess. Funny thing is, I can't even remember which casino it was that made me so mad. They intentionally broke up a $5 table that was running great, and then when no one would play at the $10 level, they immediately took the $10 right behind it, that nobody was on, and made it a $5 table. Later they pulled a similar stunt. The other place I do remember, but will not name it. Too bad I can be so stubborn, as I have heard the Borgata is pretty nice.

It's funny you mention that experience. I haven't had it happen in AC, but I was in Indiana last month, and they did the same thing. 5 dollar table, PACKED, and they almost immediately raised it to $10 (after the next shooter), and opened $5 next door. I was told it helps get a table started because people don't want to walk up to an empty table. (I don't mind that at all.) So they figure the people that are betting 10 or more will stay, the others will migrate, and they'll have 2 active tables people will want to join.

That's another plus in AC, they almost always give a reasonable amount of time before raising limits. They usually put a sticker on the limit card saying that it will go up at a certain time (usually about a half an hour).

To be honest, I'm not giving a ringing endorsement of AC and their rules...I doubt I'd make a special trip if I wasn't nearby. I'm just saying it's not a place to AVOID if you are close. At least don't avoid it because of the dealers.

Why not assume that it was the Sands that made you mad? The whole building is gone, so maybe the town would be OK for you now.

I have only been to the Borgata once. Nice place, but it was even more extreme than usual as a casino in which to get lost. The gaming area is a huge circle around a central core, with several similar-looking areas at different positions around the circle. Hard to find your way (as a newcomer) back to where you were before, or even to know how long you have been walking in circle(s). I was there with my wife and two brothers. We split up, planning to reconnect later. Much easier said than done, and while the mobile phones were working, none of us could hear one ring among all the noise from the slots.

Borgata has you walking in circles? Me too. I'm there every year or so, and I still get lost.

Cell phones? You're right. Can't hear a thing. I have a rule with my wife (and anyone else I'm with). DON'T use the phone. Use text messages instead.
