The Gamblers' General Store (Online catalog, ordering and shipping) has some very fine Pai Gow Tiles.
Quote: sodawaterI want to buy a set of casino-quality PG tiles to practice with at home... anyone have any recommendation? Looking to not spend that much but I don't want plastic crap either.
Soda- I was given a set by a Rio pit boss. I thought I would be practicing a lot with them. Not nearly as efficient as WizardofOdds free play game. Also, a friend at work has an app that is great, too. I use my tiles as a decorative piece, and rarely ever use them for practice as it takes alot of time to use them. But Good Luck!
Mine are almost the same as this set, but with Chinese manufacturer logos on the case:

When Horseshoe Southern Indiana used to have tiles, they would sell old sets in the gift shop for about 20 bucks. While I think the Wizard's free play game is great for faster learning, nothing replicates the casino like a set of tiles to practice at home. It will also allow you to practice different sets when you're the banker without causing all the tiles to fall down and look like you don't know what you're doing.
I'm not sure HSI has any sets available, but it might be worth the phone call to see if they can ship them to you. I think it's worth the investment if you're going to learn the game and take it seriously.
No special marking, just correct weight and feel !
Thanks in advance

Bring $6200 to your nearest casino. Edit: oops forgot about the cheapest.
The wizard of odds game is great but,
One of the great joys of playing tiles, IMO,
Is to slowly evaluate the tiles, while face down and rubbing your thumb over the indentations.
This will give any non-Asaian, instant credibility at the casino,
And has the added benefit of keeping the game at a nice slow and leisurely pace.
This is one game, that will not submit to the casino desire for speed!
EZ TILES? not gonna happen
Quote: WongBoDefinitely get a decent set of tiles.

THIS.
Also, playing on the computer has a different feel than playing with the physical objects; meaning, it feels like each way uses a different part of the brain.
Having a set of tiles makes it easier to learn how to recognize and name hands. Pick tiles at random and name them. Pick pairs and name the pairs. Pick hands at random and arrange them.
Unfortunately for me, I just don't go to the casinos often enough any more to feel comfortable risking real money on the tiles. I'm going once every 3 months or so, and that's not enough for a game that I don't play very frequently.

I completely agree with this. As a non-Asian, playing Tiles feels like sitting at the grown-ups table. People will ask you what you are doing, and dealers will almost always tell you this isn't Blackjack. Non-Asian dealers will probably talk your ear off, unless they are a stick in the mud. Even dealers at Bellagio are friendly at the Tiles table if you're non-Asian. It's pretty cool...

Just wait until Dan gets his hands on it... I always joke the game would be more popular with a shuffling machine on it...

Actually, there IS an EZ Pai Gow-like commission free version of Asian Tiles, done by Stanley Ko;
He bars a rare hand. Ko also has side bets. He did a complete job, and very fine job.

Get a set of Soprano's on eBay ... very close. The older 9 gm Super Diamond's from a tag sale are also a good feel sound and weight.
