How do you make a change at the sports book?

Hi everyone. Just a quick question from a dice shooter who strays into the sports book once or twice a year;

Discounting the Super Bowl or, it seems, Saturday afternoons when every screen has a different college game on it, will someone who works in the sports book change a channel if you ask? For example, if I wanted to watch the NY Islanders on a Tuesday night and they weren't on a screen would just asking politely be enough? Thanks,

I think they would accommodate you if you ask an Employee politely to change the channel. A lot of people aren't even paying that much attention to the screen. So it wouldn't really upset them if the channel is changed. ;)

this is creepy i just had this exact conversation with my SO she HATES the casino because of the smoking but the one day we were at one of the restaurants and they wouldnt change it because of march madness or something but she wanted to watch hockey and she is still to this day pissed about it

I disagree with nathan as usual.

It depends on how many TVs the book has and how many people are there.

Also depends on how much you’re betting and what other games are on that day.

I have asked for a received channel changes at table games in multiple casinos. Provided there isn't a big game or the local home team is playing they will usually accommodate. Not sure about the poker room. Pit folks who are customer oriented like doing that task. Its a pretty specific task that they have the ability to do and costs them nothing.

I had that exact situation at a casino in Perth (A ustralia) a few years ago; they have two large screens as well as sixteen smaller ones. After the Liverpool match had finished they were happy to put one of the big screens onto the Southampton match.

Well the dude said he never asked or he wouldn't ask if he asked if they would change the channel. They aren't going to ask him what's wrong face in the crowd. They can't change a channel if nobody asks, this is common sense and you're being harsh.

If Nathan wanted to, she could take this question back to her corner and give her opinion there, and I would have nothing to say about it. Instead, as someone who has never placed a bet in a sportsbook, she takes on the mantle of knowing what she's talking about and gives bad advice in that person's thread. That is my objection.

People should be able to come here, ask a question, and get answers from people who know what they're talking about. Alternately, if a person has never been in a sportsbook, they should disclose that when giving advice. Nathan does neither - she just writes whatever occurs to her without foundation, and it has to be either challenged or clarified.

If this were the first time, or even among the first couple dozen times, I would agree I was harsh. But it's constant, over years now, and simply annoying, which is probably the point of continuing to do it. Along with the side benefit of making me look like I'm the jerk for calling it out.

As to the specific question, a sportsbook isn't your neighborhood Applebee's. Better answers are within the thread above, given by people who DO use sportsbooks and understand the etiquette of them.

One key difference is that casino employees deal with dumb questions from clueless customers far more than people working in restaurants. They'll probably handle any request politely and professionally. And if not, they'll still have to deal with the question, just like they have to deal with every other question

To the original question: simply asking to put a specific game will either be enough to get one of the TVs switched, or nothing you do would be enough. So may as well ask. If you try it, you'll be as much of an expert as anyone else here on this issue.
