Ok really a simple question but difficult to get my point across.

As I understand it the book makers attempt to make the lines so that the outcome of all bets will somewhere near the 50% rate so they can avoid huge losses. This is why the line moves based on the action on certain games. This is an assumption and one that I am basing my question on.

The Wizard has stated several time that he uses runners to place his NFL bets because he is not welcome at certain places because of his prowess in football betting.

My question is why would the casinos have an issue with bets from players like the Wizard. If their book is correct 50% it really does not matter if the Wiz wins big because others are losing and they, the casino, still wins.

I hope this question is clear, I can not think of a way to make it clearer.

This is not entirely accurate. I have used runners because I live way out on the west side of Vegas and hate traveling all the way to the Strip to make a bet. It's much easier to text a runner what to bet, where, and how much. I had a very good one too.

I can make bets anywhere in Vegas. Often I'm taking the opposite side as the squares, which they need, so should welcome my action. However, I've been denied or cut back on some types of bets like parlay cards and teasers. There is no "other side" on those and they do see sharps betting the same way on those, so stand to take a beating the sharp side of every pick hits.

This seems like a good place to answer a simple question .
Is running bets legal? Can I, for example, get a text and place a bet for someone else. Does it matter if that person is in Nevada or not? Maybe not so simple a question.
Thanks.

The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

Making bets for somebody else is illegal in Nevada. However, it is commonly done and difficult to prove. Any major sports book will have the same faces that sit around paying close attention to their smart phones and are quick to rush to the counter on a line movement. Rather than fight it, the books use the beards to know which side the sharp money is on. For example, if they move a line by half a point, and all the sharp-money beards rush the counters, they will be at the ready to move it back after one bet is made.

Thank you very much for answering. I have been pondering this for years. :)
