2015 WoV Picks Game (Discussion Thread)

My guess is the Saturday game will not be included. I say this because last year, when we had a couple of Saturday games on December 20th, those two games were not included.Quote: AyecarumbaIs the Saturday game included in the upcoming pick list? if so, what does that do to the submission deadline?

That's correct, it is always games played on Sunday or Monday.

I'm very fortunate this wasn't the week that knocked me out of contention. I lost my confidence bet on the Jags, when their offense forgot that Atlanta's defense is mediocre at best. So 0-2 right off the bat.
Then both the Steelers and Giants fell 23.5 point behind their spreads. Very, very fortunately for me, both teams managed huge comebacks and covered. My other pick was the Seahawks/Browns over 43, which looked great when they combined for 30 first half points, but they only totaled 13 in the second half, so that ended up as a push.
So, instead of being 0-4-1, I squeaked out a 2-2-1 record.
Still have the Lions/Saints Under 51, so I'm guessing they'll reach 48 at the beginning of the 4th Quarter and make me sweat it out!

I also had both the Steelers and the Giants, and thus feel very fortunate to have finished 5-1. I was expecting much worse for a bit.

Yeah, Ed, I couldn't stand it, so I ran the partial numbers last night. You did great! I had a similar score, so we're both in contention. Gen and MAP both have tonight bet, and it will make a difference to both of us how that turns out since we're right in with them. Unfortunately for JML and Mission, both cratered the week. Crazy game.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I looked at it at work. If I remember, I wanted Detroit to cover in a very high scoring game. :) This is from memory, but that result put me tied for 2nd Place just behind you!

I touched first place and have tanked since. I might take a forced 0-5 next week and skip. I figure I'll do better that way because I won't be making a Confidence Pick!

You haven't taken one yet, so you're still eligible.
For those that have already taken one, a second bye week results in an 0-5 forfeit... but you can continue playing, as long as you have no additional missed weeks. That's because a third missed week results in a forfeit.
If you take your optional bye this week, your record for the season will be what it is now: 36-57. You can determine for yourself (it sounds as if you already have) the possible scenarios that might occur of those players near you.

Strategy move by Ed Collins, taking his bye week.
The guarantees that the winner will come from one of the top 4.
Genwyzgy needs go 3-2 or better to go ahead of EdCollins, would need to go 5-1 to shut out me and beachbumbabs
Both me and beachbumbabs will need to go 4-0 (or better) to pass EdCollins and have a chance to win. We can't both go undefeated since we're on opposite sides of the Bill vs Jet game. Of course we would also need pass Genwyzgy to get there.

I suppose there's a small chance Mission left off Ed's picks, since there's not a statement of bye week posted, but I bet you're right. Had I been in the lead, it would have been my move. My picks are looking pretty awful at the moment, though. I couldn't bear taking either side of MIN/GB, but I won't miss a minute of it tonight.

Yes, would have been my strategy too. In fact, when I was in the lead, I purposely didn't take a bye week so I had that option available to me if I should be in the lead. As it turns out, I have to be perfect today today to have a chance.
I didn't take MIN v GB because motivation may change based on the late afternoon games. There are scenario's where a Packer loss could be a blessing in disguise. In fact, nobody in the top four took that game.

IF I've calculated this correctly,
- if the Rams beat the Niners by more than 3, then I will win.
- if the Rams beat the Niners by exactly 3, then Genwyzgy can win by winning last three remaining games (Panthers OVER, Chiefs ATS, and Cardinals OVER), otherwise I win.
- if the Rams lose to the Niners or win by less than 3, then Genwyzgy can win by either winning last three remaining games, or getting two wins and one push, otherwise Ed Collins wins
- if the Rams beat the Niners by more than 3, then I will win.

My way unofficial calculations have it coming down now to me and Ed Collins. If St Louis wins this game against the Niners in overtime by at least a field goal, I will win the contest. Any other result (including a tie game) gives the contest win to Ed Collins.

I thought about taking the week off also, but decided against it. At about the end of the 3rd quarter of the afternoon games, 4-2 was looking very good. I just needed one TD in each of the Panthers/Bucs and Cardinal/Seahawks games, and the Chiefs to hold most of their 13 point lead. Chiefs missed a FG that would have iced my win and Cards threw (at least) two INTs, to keep themselves from scoring. Oh well, it made for an exciting Sunday!
I can see that strategically, if I was going to play at all, I should have made five picks instead of six as going .500 would have lowered my winning percentage enough to give Ed Collins the win.
