Oklahoma Derby
Remington Park - Race 9
Departing goes off at 1-5, 290K in the show pool, about 280K on Departing. If you bet $100 on him to show, and he shows, you end up with $105.
I bet $2 on the 2nd choice at 4-1. Here are the payouts:
4 $8.80 $4.20 $30.00
6 . $9.00 $43.60
2 . . $76.40
7 horses in the race. If you would have put $2 to show on the other 6, you would have made $150 on your $12 bet. Or, you could have just put $20 on the 3-1 choice and ended up with $300. That was fun!

You sometimes get the same in the UK as you can make a win and place bet at known odds. Typically with 8 runners they pay 1/5th odds for the first 3. Thus say they were 1/5, 25/1 each of 7 (very unlikely but makes the maths easier), you might bet £1 e.w. (£14) and are guaranteed two places paying back £6 each. You only lose £2 but could win £26 if the favourite doesn't win, so are being offered 13/1 on ANY horse except the favourite.
