To top it off, the Ravens win it. I'm a horrible fan, after betting $2000 on SF money line.

So, will you be happier if you win or lose this bet? :)
Quote: rudeboyoispeaking of safeties, i was looking at station casinos prop bets and they had a bet for exact points scored by ravens (49ers had the same odds for these two bets). 2pts was +200,000 and 4pts was only double that at +400,000.
I'm actually surprised 2pts is so high, considering a playoff game ended with a team with 2 points just last year!

I clocked 2:35...lol
Quote: WizardWell, the safety ruined another Super Bowl for me. Still, I had only a 6.1% loss.
Not bad considering the safety result! :)

And a big money line bet on SF, no?
Quote: cclub79And a big money line bet on SF, no?
Hell yeah, forgot to mention that! Even better!
Quote: WizardBy the way, not counting SF money as a prop, I still had a profit on my prop bets.
Good to hear, relatively speaking. :) Here's to next year having the "no safety" at a better line?
I was just thinking - I hope Wizard didn't make any no safety bets today!
Quote: wudgedAccidental - blocked punt that went through the endzone.

Thanks. I didn't even know that caused a safety. Never seen a safety happen that way before.
Fortunately, I didn't bet against one. I'm sure I would have, if given the chance.
Maybe because the defenses are going full-throttle and the offenses are willing to take more chances.
Quote: WizardIt would seem another punt gone bad.
Just seems like it. The punter was clearly told to take a safety but kill as much time as possible avoiding tackle for the few seconds left, he never intended to punt. He finally exited the back of the end zone with 3 seconds left IIRC
I guess that's why they call it a 'safety'

Nope, same situation as the SB a couple of years back, burn time of the clock in return for giving up 2 points... kills the game pretty much if done right. Intentiuonal safeties are quite common in the CFL (the punt rules are different there with regards to the ball being live for both sides).

I'd place as much money on an NFL game that I would on Wrestlemania — rigged rigged rigged

Yeah the safety was intentional in the latter playoff game on Saturday. Definitely the correct play as well, imo. Since playoff games tend to be closer, safety probabilities may go up in the playoffs.
You only get one point in the CFL in the situation you're describing. I wouldn't call that an intentional safety. Sacrificing a "rouge" maybe?

The Baltimore/Pittsburgh game was the latter playoff game on Saturday. So, which were INTENTIONAL safeties yesterday?
A. Ariz/Car only.
B. Bal/Pitt only.
C. Both
D. Neither

Sounds like a good Ask the Wizard question. I'll get back to you with an answer once I have the data entered for this season.
you can watch it , click on the link you provided .... it's the highlight in last Carolina possession

No wonder the refs picked up that flag.

That's not a rouge (or a single). A rouge is when the ball is dead in the end zone, by tackling the punt returner, or not being recovered and being 'downed' by an offside player at the point of the punt (unlikely, as the ball is live for onside players, so it'd be extremely risky for the punt returner to leave the ball in the endzone) or if the punt goes throw the back or sides of the endzone. The team scored on gets the ball after a rouge. A safety turns over possession. A punter-driven safety occurs because a punt from the endzone is much worse than giving the ball up from a 25 yard kick off, or defending from the opposition 35 yard-line (3 downs and 110 yard field make that not so bad field position).
The rouge gets the ball back from your own 35 yard line, or the point of the field goal, so yes, giving up a point for better field position can happen too. But it's on receiving the ball.

Ridicolous, but not rigged. The Lions had chances to put that game away. They came up far too short in the second half, despite an obviously BS flag pick up. Should never have been waved off after making the announcement on the PA. And shouldn't have been wave off anyway, was a clear Pass Interference. But still winning teams with the #2 defence shouldn't cough up 17 more points like they did.
Gutted. Have to wait longer for my second Lions Playoff win...
