Can you imagine how much money states could generate if online poker and online sports betting was legal. Politicians are well aware of how much there state benefits if they can convince there constituents that online gambling should be legalized. This country been raking in money for years as a result of gambling. Horse racing, greyhound racing, jai alai, lotteries, and american indian casinos. Top politicians have proven over and over there ability to sell the american people a bill of goods. So you have to ask yourself, is this mountain to high to climb, even for the best politicians. Selling people on the lottery was easy. All profits will go for education. Bingo, a winner. Americans spent 45 billion dollars last year, so we must have the best educational system in the world. It's legal, it's here to stay, mission accomplished. What's so hard about legalizing online poker? Millions of people would love to play online poker. The money is subtracted from the winning hand, and the profits will go for building bridges, infrastructure that need fixing, and if we legalized online sports betting, we'll throw in high-speed rail service, so we can get from New York to Washington in five minutes. Actually, I would love to see high-speed rail in this country. China, Spain, Japan, and eleven other countries have high-speed rail, and what do we have, amtrak. To tell you the truth, I'm afraid to take amtrak with all the derailments.

Do you know what high-speed rail means? A longer walk out of the woods.

Anyway, online sports betting is a different animal. How in the world would politicians pull this off. The temptation of shaving points for college kids would be to great. Every call the referee makes would be scrutinized and rightfully so. College referees don't make that much money, especially the lower levels. You would have to second guess everything that went on in the game. You would have to worry about players, referees, and even coaches. There's a lot of honest referees and players, but you would always be skeptical. I remember when there was a college football referee in the big ten conference, and he only had one eye. His name was James Filson. He was a good referee and was a referee in at least one bowl game. A reporter found out and wrote an article, and he was fired. He sued, and he settled out of court with the big ten conference. He refereed for five years before the public found out. Could you imagine this scenario. The players decide to bet on the game and shave points. The referee has a bet on the game, and the coach told his brother in-law to bet the under because he's tired of lending his brother in-law money. You would have total chaos, and a bunch of handicappers on antidepressant pills. How would the governor tell the people in his state that tolls are going up because we got one sided in to many games this week. Of course they would have to be independently run and the government would collect taxes, but I don't believe we will ever see legalized sports betting on the internet.

And the credit for that goes to the NFL.

It seems like the NFL is in favor of illegal sports betting and against legal sports betting.

Yes, and it amazes me the NFL will fully embrace fantasy football, but god forbid I care more about a point spread than the direct outcome of two teams I care nothing about. And god also forbid a league that lets a guy who kills dogs for fun be seen as somehow unpure.

And I do have to say Vick was the last straw for me. The NFL tells Rush Limbaugh, an upstanding citizen and succesful broadcaster he is not welcome to invest in a franchise yet Vick is welcomed back after a measley 4 fame suspension as a convicted felon. And Roethlisberger who was not convicted of anything gets the same 4 game suspension as the felon.

NFL, this is why you are no more than point spreads to me, and the group of people like me may be small but believe me it is growing.
All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others

NJ will be challenging the Federal ban of on-line sports betting. The gov. says that he doesn't think the Fed has the right to restrict on line sports betting to four states.

The NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and NCAA are trying to stop it.

Rush Limbaugh, an upstanding citizen

Um.... Compared to Michael Vick, I guess. Compared to the average person, no.

My official guess - In the next 20 years, about half of the states in the US will have legalized sports betting (some online, some not). My guess is the compromise will be that it will only be allowed on professional sports.

Women declare war on Rush Limbaugh for calling a young law student a “slut†and a prostitute,†and now his own wife Kathryn is jumping on the bash-Rush bandwagon!

She’s furious at the 61-year-old conservative firebrand and threatened to walk out of their marriage if he keeps up his trash talk, say insiders.

Rushbo... Just what perscriptions ARE in your body at any given time? Inquiring minds want to know.
Mike Vick, bad guy for sure, Rush is more insidious.
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.
