It can be real, I received a similar notice about 10 years ago when trying to use a players card after being gone a year. I was innocent, and was not even in the country for the months in question, so I proved by travel history, and had to play a certain period of time to get rated again to unlock comps. I forget exactly what they told me, but I think something along the lines of somebody got a copy of a players card I left somewhere, and was using it for daily slot free play, and maybe other comps when I was not around, but it got resolved after they realized I was a sucker and not an AP upon my return.
